the fab fifties ⋆maki & hanayo

absentmindedly wiping the counter-- even though it was already sparkling clean --koizumi gazed out one of the large windows ( that were accompanied by obnoxiously-coloured curtains, as you would expect from any quality 50′s-themed diner ) intently, as if with willpower alone she could attract at least one new customer to the near-bankrupt restaurant. 

if the profits don’t go up within this month we’ll have to close, her boss had said when she clocked into work a couple hours earlier. we’re losing too much money this way, he’d added. 

and it broke her heart, really. she’d been working at this place since forever-- actually just two and a half years, but it was more-or-less the same thing, right? --and thus she’d be more than just a little sad were this place to close down. 

the brunette sighed slightly, only to then wave goodbye at her fellow coworker. it was almost closing time, alright. so why was it that upon gazing out the window once more she noticed headlights-- and not only that! she also saw a person stepping out of the car! could they be a new client...? 

this question found its answer when they pushed open the door, bell-chimes sounding after them, and sat down at a table. she gave her a good, long look-- it was a slender woman with bright-red hair. her outfit fit perfectly with the diner’s thematic... did that mean she was a new employee, and not a customer? but why would her boss hire someone else when they were on the very edge of bankruptcy?
