Nishka Black Print Preview
We're almost ready for the Boston Festival of Indie Games, and we've got the Nishka Black faction deck ready to go! If you're in Boston on September 23rd, join us at the MIT Johnson Athletic Center to playtest Zero Sum's third corporation and tell us what you think. Can't join us? Read on for a sneak peek!
Core to Nishka Black is the concept of expendable units. If expendables are discarded or trashed, their owner can remove them from the game to gain one kredit.
For all factions, we've revamped the game concept of Covert Ops (formerly known as Conspiracies), turning these hidden cards into far more impactful game events and allowing deck builders to strategize around their continual use during play.
Nishka Black takes the concept of covert ops one step further, allowing you to deploy Sleeper Cell units. These units activate for kredits or on a trigger condition.
In our revamp of Zero Sum, we've added more unique units which reference each faction's lore and also allow for distinct play styles. Historically, Nishka Black was relegated to the "dark sector" of the galaxy: inhospitable solar systems dominated by pulsars or dangerous nebulae. Over the generations since their corporation was founded, Nishka Black citizens have adapted to their harsh environment, giving rise to a genetic variant called the Darksider.
When put into play, Darksiders exhaust a target non-elite unit. That unit is prevented from engaging a Crisis card or taking any other action during its next turn.

WIP card UI designs for the new Nishka Black Agent cards. We want to visually communicate that leveling up is a Big Deal, but also explore Nishka’s faction identity, which is markedly different from TechNet or Anacron. Where TechNet is sleek and refined, Nishka is full of bullet holes and rough edges. And where Anacron’s design is ethereal and unified, Nishka has some rust and deliberate broken glass. Hopefully, this serves to visually communicate that Nishka operatives are wild, take risks, and enjoy higher stakes than their counterparts among the other factions in Zero Sum.
Card text and art is placeholder, and subject to change as we continue our redesign. Got an opinion? Let us know in the comments!
