Suchdol is fun for everyone
Flemeth, they think, is a corruption of what she could have been. For her, there is no love lost, but what else is to be expected? But Mythal herself had recognized what Alanari held dear, welcomed it, nurtured it. Arlathan and the People within were safe by the gifts she granted.
a knife!
He wakes to heat spreading over the side of his face, laughter ringing in his ears. Strife shakes his head to clear it. When that fails, stands to make his way to the nearby washbasin, guided by moonlight. Even cool water splashing over his face, dripping onto his collar, does little to shake the dream.
Miraen is likely dead, he reminds himself. Like so many others.
Jindřich is unhappy enough to be told he'll be left behind again after the horror that was Suchdol, when something awful happens every time they're apart, that he can't make himself push down that fear anymore. It's too much, after everything, and it ends up being the first time since Talmberg that he's argued with Radzig, the first time, even, that he's actually said "no," – if in the throes of panic.
What I'm saying is, that walk back to Suchdol is, finally, their chance to actually talk about the future, about Radzig's hope for it (something Jindra is free to accept or turn down). Both of them have had time to move past the awkward distance between them (Radzig's teasing - which I am adjusting to be about Rosa), Jindřich finishing their "things worth living for"), enough to address it. The walk back, and the time in Kutná Hora, to settle matters there, involves so much conversation about what his life would be like, the responsibility involved, with Radzig reassuring him that he's already proven himself capable of it – and promising there won't be an engagement sprung on him like Hans' was, that they'll also talk about it when that time comes.
No.
There is no speech here, any more than there is physicality, but the sentiment echoes all the same. I don't want to see these. I don't want to know. The memories drift to them, to the surface, all the same. Her Justice, elevated with Wisdom's loss. Not his face, but his recollections. They don't want to see, but want and it's lack is not a factor of consideration here.
hey @theharellan how are we feeling here 😊
One foot in another world.
If their Keeper had heard of this place, she had never mentioned it to the clan as a whole. Perhaps it had been recorded as lost forever in one of the cherished books that technically belonged to the People as a whole, but access to those was reserved for the Keeper and her apprentices. It didn’t matter so much in the grand scheme of things, but Alanari can’t help but wonder. The temple’s grandeur made sense, but they can’t help being sickened at the utter waste. Here the elders survive, sleeping, and…..
And nothing. They just sleep, and turn arrogant eyes away from the world outside their walls. They’re safe here; why should the fate of shadows concern any of them?
How many children could have been raised in the vast expanse of this temple alone? How many more still stand? The thought makes them want to lash out, destroy something, but when their fist meets stone, it’s their skin and bones that crack, that give way.
Alanari will leave this place changed in more ways than can be observed in a casual glance. They laugh a little less readily, though, and don’t care to discuss that place. Not when it should have felt like coming home, and fell far short of the mark.
He breathes out, and under his hands, resting gently over their back, papery bark softens, regains color. From that place, it spreads, the air around them shimmering with returning heat, life. Careful, precise direction, a reversal of the knowledge used to warp bodies beyond recognition, has flesh, organs, skin, reclaiming their proper place.
They fall away from the tree.
Emithas breathes.
They breathe.
This is what it is to be judged divine. They do not see you, but a statue. Cold, unfeeling, unhearing stone, to levy accusations at, to gossip about, to assign motivations. Before he was your Fen'Harel, he was my friend.
Got emotional at 4AM, will likely not touch this again for months. bon appetit
