"What?" He was upset that she growled, "You’ve been wanting to leave since I brought you here, and now you can go." He gestured towards the trees. "If you wanna be a wolf, than fine, if you wanna be a girl, than I can set you up with an apartment, I’ve got plenty of money."

It was viciously against his nature, and he in fact wasn’t even all that aware of the situation, but he actually cared for Nixie, enough that he didn’t want to keep her captive any longer. He blamed it on the many annoyances he came across with her, but there was a drop of humanity that came with the demon to the mortal coil.

Nixie couldn’t explain to him what she wanted like this so she ran off to change behind a tree knowing that he didn’t care to see her change like this. She came back over and shook her head. “What brought this on? I’ve been good, I haven’t tried to run away. What’s the point of getting rid of me?”

The girl didn’t understand what had happened for him to change her mind like this. “Yeah I tried to get away but I’m not trying now. Please…I can’t be by myself…I don’t have anyone to turn to. Please….I’ll be good…I’ll hunt my own food, I’ll sleep outside…”

Austin stared at her as if he didn't know her when she came to him in her human form. He wasn't used to seeing her as human, and it was like she was a stranger when she came to him. "I have no need for you." He pointed out bluntly.

He hadn't expected her to want to stick around, he thought the moment he proved he wouldn't hunt her down if she tried to run she'd be headed for the hills. "You have no need for me, I'll give you money to get on two feet and you'll be fine."

Nixie padded up to her owner and nudged his hand with a slight huff. She wanted more attention from him, or from just anyone. The wolf wanted to be able to run and play but with him always keeping her here it wasn't going to happen. Sure she'd chewed on the toys he had gotten her but Nixie wanted to run, not just chew on things. (I'm sorry i've been gone so long and I hope you don't mind me sending this to you.)

Austin had been reading Ishmael by Daniel Quinn, chuckling softly to himself at the author’s feeble human attempts at spiritual understanding, when he felt a wet nose nudge his hand. Not looking up from the pages, he stroked the wolf’s soft ears and smiled subtly.

"It’s a beautiful autumn day out." He withdrew his hand and waved her off. "If you fetch your leash I will take you on a walk."

Nixie padded up to the foot of the bed before she hopped up and curled up next to her master. Placing her head on his chest whining softly she liked his cheek and nudged his cheek with her nose. She was getting restless, it was getting close to her heat and she could tell. Swishing her tail back and forth she licked his cheek again. (I'm sorry I had to thought it would be funny.)

Austin stirred from his sleep, first hearing her nails clicking on the ground, then feeling her weight beside him, then the wetness of her tongue on his cheek. He was tired, and furrowed his brow grumpily, turning to the dog beside him. He reached up to pet her ears, his eyes lidded sleepily.

"I will make you into a rug." He threatened with a soft whisper, but wrapped his arms around her neck and nuzzled her.

If You See the Light // Austin&Nixie

Austin spent the next two nights venting his rage, finding easy pickings, homeless people and squatters, mostly, and getting what he wanted. A catch always made him feel better, more accomplished, like he had control. He needed the feeling of having control after dealing with Nixie prior.

When he returned, he was fingering the talismans, a locket and a signed baseball card, which he was quite fond of as a talisman. It was unique, not like the dusty old jewelry that was piling up in his room.

He entered his bedroom, blowing past the chained wolf, who he'd not even seen in more than fifty hours, and ducked into the room whose contents she'd never seen, disappearing for a few moments, before returning, laying on his bed, and shutting his eyes. He was a strong-willed creature, but his human vessel could only withstand so much before it had to rest.
