Awesome news! Sir Victory-Through-Courage is getting the Meritorious Service award for “his dedication to seeing Niyau’s red transition through safely”!!!

(And that’s a ~big change~ from a couple of years ago when every socially conservative politician in the country was  ~using him as a scapegoat~ to appease anyone who wasn’t happy about integration!)

So I knew I shouldn’t have worn a skirt until it was ~actually summer~. But it didn’t look like it was going to rain this afternoon!

But that was stupid. ~It always rains in this country~.

Ugh I have water on my ankles that touched the dirt my skin is ~crawling~

So if basically all yellow last names have "sun" in 'em, and your last names are made by combining both parent's last names, and your mom's yellow: Do people mistake *you* for yellow if they read your name before they meet you?

No, my first name is ~really obviously~ green!

But maybe other mixed-caste kids with a yellow parent have experienced this? I wouldn’t say it never happens, at least!

Are Niyauon pronouns as weird as those ridiculously long Niyauon names?

So, I see you’re asking about our multi-caste pronouns! (Unless there’s other ~uniquely Niyaui pronouns~ no one told me about!) But I don’t think they’re weird! 

So okay, maybe they’re a little weird! Or at least the history behind them is!

~It’s quite a story~, actually! 

History greening time!

So a long time ago, there was a Niyauiemperor, Emperor Champion-And-Protector-Of-The-People! And, as manyNiyaui emperors did, they had a court theologian!

And this~particular theologian~, Joy-Bourne-From-Successful-Defense,* hadsome very ~fringe views~!

They proposed that the castes had “naturalsupercategories”: grey and purple, the castes of the [Id];yellow and green, the castes of the [Ego]; and blue and orange, the castes of the [Superego]! Other countries, such as Ceredan forexample, have had similar cultural ideas!~But Joy-Bourne-From-Successful-Defense took this further~!

They proposed that from these “natural supercategories”arose “natural parings”, and unions of these parings wouldnot be harmful to the order of society in the way that others would!

And for ~whatever reason~, Emperor Champion-And-Protector-Of-The-Peoplewent along with their idea!

So this is how Niyau became one of the earliest countries onrecord to legalize intercaste marriage! But only for ~those pairs of castes~!

And then, of course, Emperor Champion-And-Protector-Of-The-Peopledied, and the next ruler had Joy-Bourne-From-Successful-Defensethrown off of a cliff after he wouldn’t shut up about parentingtheology while she was nursing.

And so intercaste marriage became illegal once again.

But it did have a lasting result: Our language still has the grouppronouns grey-and-purple, yellow-and-green,and blue-and-orange!

~And now you know~!

* If you’re familiar with Niyaui naming traditions, you maynotice this name sounds oddly blue for a green! Some historianstheorize that Joy-Bourne-From-Successful-Defense was EmperorChampion-And-Protector-Of-The-People’s illegitimate half-sibling,and that’s why the Emperor gave them so much latitude for theiroutlandish theories!

(This theory is the equivalent of what ~didSekamalactuallywrite The Victory of Passion~ is in Oahkar-speaking countries, soplease do not walk into a Niyaui history department and startshouting about it!)

So there’s some good news! It looks like we’re back on schedule! (~A schedule~ at least.)

Our government says they’ll have Niyau’s reds ~on their way to Anitam’s facilities~ within a month.

(And meanwhile, Rusalva is ~not happy~, because they will have to let go of a small amount of money for a very short amount of time on behalf of Runeva. And they wanted us both to go at the same time.

But it doesn’t seem like they’re ~actually~ going to make us delay any longer? ~So that’s good~!)

And it’s all happening only half a season later than it should have been.

~Decontamination in Niyau~!!!

Breaking news!

It’s been ~approved~!!! By both Houses and Rusalva!!!

Niyau is going to be doing ~red cleaning~!!!

We’re going to be the test bed for ~integration~!!!

~Congratulations to Niyau’s reds~! Within only a couple of months, you’ll be on the boat to Anitam! And then soon you’ll be ~home~, and ~clean~!

And congratulations to Niyau’s politicians for successfully coordinating all of the ~conflicting concerns~! ~It can’t have been easy~!

And ~especial congratulations to Sir Victory-Through-Courage~, for being the impetus through which this all began!

It’s been ~years~! ~But we succeeded~!

~All of Niyau’s people will be clean~!

Fun fact for all you anthropologists and linguistics greens out there! So, I didn’t notice it the first time I went through the census of the red population, since I was just looking to see if “Camellia” had ever been used as a Niyaui name! 

But, I just finished helping my mentees pick out their new hair colors! (It was great! So much ~color theory fun~!) And ~everyone got into it~! I ended up talking to a bunch of the other ex-reds on their floor! And then I noticed a cool trend, and I looked it up when we were done!

So, it turns out that two-word names are ~approximately five times~ as common in the red population as in the rest of the country! Isn’t that cool?

So, their naming customs still aren’t as ~traditional~ as blues, but meeting a bunch of ex-reds still gives the impression that you’ve walked into a ~storybook protagonist~ convention!
