Short recap for those who don't want to scroll a little to figure out what's going on, this is an alternate universe with my yumeship. One where Nicky accepts the offer to go to any hero school of their choosing. Obviously, as an All Might fan, they chose UA.
They come in a bit late during first year, around the time Stain is taken in to custody. Super awkward timing but they get along with Ochako, Iida, and Izuku pretty quickly.
Long af story short, during the summer in third year Izuku and Nicky spend a lot of time hanging out together, a (one sided) puppy crush forms but just before going back to school Nicky's ex Vanessa comes to Japan and attempts to murder them- I'm still sketching this out in the au so I don't have visuals atm :p BUT during their 6 months in the hospital Izuku visits extremely often and helps them graduate, after which Nicky is ordered to return home from their parents.
8 years later they return to Japan to teach english at UA, making Izuku and Nicky coworkers. Their personality seemed to changed a lot but that doesn't mean Izuku's feelings did.
UA au, friends to co-workers to .. whatever the hell they have going on
Grahh I wanna yap about this au but I can't get my thoughts together. The growth both of them experienced from 1st year, to the war, to 3rd year and the attempt on Nicky's life, to their co-worker era is insanely vast and I love thinking about it. Their development romantically is also something I think about often. Going through tough shit together and navigating trauma as carefully as possible while still healing and finding comfort in each other again and again as time passes AAHH.
Since it's pride month I guess i'll yap about Nicky's issue.
So, their agab is female and they were expected to grow up and marry a man. Well the older they got they realized they weren't a woman BUT liked women (all around 13 yrs old) It was liberating they felt amazing in their newfound identity and moved forward as a trans masc who liked women only. They dated one of their friends named Vanessa, who was already rude and toxic as a friend but got worse when dating but because of who Nicky is and their life experience they didn't see that At All and were made to believe they were the problem.
Skip forward to their break up before Nicky went to high school, Vanessa wasn't able to attend a hero school because of her quirk breaking her body down- so in this AU, Nicky going to UA pissed her off greatly. The break up was messy and left Nicky never wanting to date anyone again.
Around this time Nicky decided to shapeshift into a male! Their identity stayed the same but being more masculine felt easier and more comfortable.
SO, the entirety of high school Nicky was only focused on working and their friendships. Not giving much thought to romance, despite a lot of girls approaching them after the war. Around that time, after the war, Nicky shifted back to their agab. They decided leaning to far male was not for them and would like to rediscover androgyny. THOUGH, being a shapeshifter they could low dose testosterone via controlling their own hormones. They did so until around starting 3rd year.
8 years after graduation, returning to Japan Nicky had discovered they can find men attractive (non binary people as well!! they're pan) but still wasn't sure about dating. After working for not even a month at UA with Izuku Nicky started crushing, hard.

Below is the sister universe, UA au. In the original universe Nicky is offered to go to high school at any prestigious school of their choosing and declines but in the UA au universe... as you can tell they choose to go to UA. Nicky and Izuku meet as teenagers rather than adults, this au isn't focused on romance but follows their friendship and the blossoming of a romance later down the road (aka, i don't yume pre time skip izuku, but he gets a crush on nicky during 3rd year and that's where it stops until they're grown adults)
Nicky move's back home after graduation but come back 8 years later to work as an English teacher at UA.

So, sometime after Nicky went back to America and around the time Izuku started teaching (in my headcanon) Nicky's emails sort of just stopped with zero warning or explanation. Izuku knew Nicky was dealing with depression and all sorts of things after the murder attempt and expressing Not wanting to go back home. He didn't think they'd do anything like that though.
At first he assumed Nicky got a job and was super busy, but when Emily (Nicky's best friend, Izuku's wingwoman) randomly took a flight to America for a week, very soon after Nicky's emails stopped, he got worried. Em said she was 'just visiting family' and reassured him everything's fine.
After that year, when Nicky's emails started again, they never spoke about it. Returning to Japan and rebuilding that closeness with Izuku left Nicky with some guilt and they had to tell him.
Now. To me Izuku is 'obsessive, possessive' because i said so. Finding out the person he loves so so scarily much could've been gone with no way of him stopping it... he didn't take it well at all.
Nicky just thinks he's overprotective, they don't know just how wacko he is for them
Not even a month into being back in Japan and working their new job Nicky figured out they Really Like Izuku now. His confidence is very, almost too, attractive.
But everyone knows you shouldn’t date your coworkers…
