some highlights of batman villians
KGbeast: weird soviet assassin who looks like he should be at leather pride who kills like 78+ people in 2 days, batman locks him in the sewers to die.
NKVdemon: the shitter KGBeast, literally the shitter one. so bad, oh my god through him in the trash, also gets locked in the sewers but is freed by the Russian police. (I mean he still goes to jail lol)
Magpie: a lady who stole a bunch of jewels and just was a weirdo, nice weirdo.
Obeah man: Timmy's archnemesis, killed his mother and paralysed his dad. REALLY DATED, does not hold up at all.
Metal head: literally a pincushion, KGBeast and Metal Head would go to leather pride as sub and dom, I will let you choose who's who.
Pestycide: the Gotham Petrochemical industry haunts the narrative so bad, she melts so many people, so so many people. then melts herself in a vat of acid. YEAH WTF GOTHAM DID YOU NOT LEARN FROM THE JOKER??????
BATMAN #445-447 MARCH - MAY 1990 BY MARV WOLFMAN, JIM APARO, MIKE DECARLO, ADRIENNE ROY, JOHN COSTANZA, BRIAN BOLLAND AND ANTHONY TOLLIN
An apprentice of the KGBeast declared his intentions of assassinating ten people that were essential for Glasnot.... with the only purpose of making the soviet union great again.
SCORE: 7
It’s... a story that happened.
I don’t know... I don’t have nostalgia for “ten nights of the beast”, so this follow-up story doesn’t really feel that interesting to me. I also think that, the first time I read this, I didn’t have “ten nights of the beast” on my hands... and I would have to say that... you can read it without reading the original. Everything is explained.
It’s not a bad story, but sometimes Wolfman fills up all the panels with words, and that makes certain action scenes go slower than they should. The non-action scenes, however, are much stronger.
We have the return of Vicky Vale, who was in limbo for a couple of years at this point. She doesn’t do much here, but Wolfman was clearly trying to set up a supporting cast.
Like this Rebecca Curley, who I don’t remember ever appearing again. By the way, I like how this page was inked. Aparo is usually not that great at drawing teenagers, but you wouldn’t be able to tell by looking at this page. And I am under the impression that it was DeCarlo who smoothed Tim’s face.
In the past I said that Aparo’s art was feeling a little dated compared to other books that were being published at the time. But here, at least in the first two chapters, Batman looks a bit darker. And I feel like the art team might have felt inspired by the 1989 movie, which was probably very fresh in their mind when this story was created.
But then Batman went back to being more blue and grey.
So, what about the story and the NKVDemon? There is not much to say... it’s basically “ten nights of the beast” but in Russia. And Batman fails to save everyone but the president.
At the time, the KGBeast was... probably dead. It wasn’t very clear what his fate was, but Batman basically left him to die... fun times.
KGBeast would eventually return a couple of years later, if I remember correctly.

DC
Is it just me or would Mr Bruce Willis make a rather good Commissioner Gordon? (I've thought he would more than once, especially when he plays a moustachioed policeman: I also like this idea because it gave me the mental image of Jim joining forces with Alfred Pennyworth to tackle some relic of the Cold War like KGBeast or the NKVDemon, in the absence of Batman).
No on Willis as Gordon (not that I’d necessarily object if it happened, but I think of Gordon as weathered rather than grizzled), yes yes yes on him and Alfred teaming up to fight the KGBeast and NKVDemon.
