WE’RE LIVE! Join us to talk about the most magical places on earth and how we can fight for them.
Okay, okay...it’s time to put our differences aside.
Over the past few weeks, the Harry Potter Alliance and the ALA have gather over 1,400 pledged calls, tweets, and emails for Virtual Library Legislative Day! Now it’s time to put those pledges into action?
Want to join us? Here are our priority asks this year.
CONFIRM Dr. Carla Hayden to serve as the next Librarian of Congress;
SUPPORT $186.6 million for the Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA), and $27 million for the Innovative Approaches to Literacy (IAL) program, in Congressional appropriations for Fiscal Year 2017;
PASS H.R. 699 to finally update the Electronic Communications Privacy Act; and
RATIFY the “Marrakesh Treaty” for the print-disabled before November.
You can visit the Action Center to find all the talking points and a bunch of pre-written messages you can send with just a few clicks. But feel free to share your own stories about the importance of libraries too!
Go get ‘em!
Library Legislative Day 2016! L to R: LLNJ Executive Director Kathy Schalk-Greene, NJLA Executive Director Pat Tumulty, former NJ Representative Rush Holt, former Haddonfield Public Library Director & NJLA Past President Susan Briant. #NLLD16 (at Washington, District of Columbia)
We’re about to kick off National Library Legislative Day 2016! You can join us via webcast. We’ll be discussing current legislative issues facing libraries (like funding, privacy and surveillance, copyright...) and keynote speaker, former Member of Congress Rush Holt, will be speaking.
Want to skip right to the action? Head over to the Action Center for talking points and pre-written emails and tweets you can send to your legislators!
Friends, the wizard punks of the Harry Potter Alliance think they can rally more support for libraries than we can on Virtual Library Legislative Day.
We beg to differ.
Help us tell Congress how important libraries are, and show the HPA what we're made of!

This week, the American Library Association (ALA) Washington Office announced that Dan A. Aldridge is the winner of the 2016 WHCLIST Award.
Shoutout to all of our amazing applicants. There are so many cool people doing cool things to help support their local libraries!
Okay look, there are a lot of reasons I’m excited about this campaign. It’s hard to choose, so let me just give you a list:
The HPA is partnering with the ALA this year to help advocate for libraries as part of Virtual Library Legislative Day.
This is on top of working with me on a super exciting advocacy video project that we’ll be rolling out later this spring.
PLUS they’re raising money right now to support a new library in Uganda!
LIBRARY SWAG
