hi guys! i'm so excited to introduce you to the team that i created for @hat-trick-honey's "operation fictional men do it better!"
currently i only have 3 oc players for this team, and i have lots of ideas for lore/thoughts on them, so if you have questions, don't hesitate to send them in! also, feel free to create your own ocs, and if you do, lmk!
i need smtg on wes and his glasses bro... or the accent...
also do u think wes loses his accent or it isn't as strong as before bc of staying in america?
some wes hcs because i couldn't figure out how else to format this!
wes nichols is a very common crush on the melons... he's tall, sweet, incredibly protective over female fans, and... he wears glasses
genuinely, wes's eyesight is so bad. he can't see without his glasses, but contacts irritate his eyes too much, so he wears these really big, bulky prescription goggles during games 😭 he hates it, but that's the only way he can see to play hockey, and people find it incredibly endearing
it's also hilarious (and super cute) to see videos and pictures of him during games, because he'll be shoving someone into the boards, and his eyes are all scrunched up under his goggles
he would prefer not to wear his glasses for post-game interviews, but unfortunately he genuinely cannot see if he's not wearing his glasses, so he has to walk out and talk to the media with them all foggy
(the edits of wes and his foggy post-game glasses are INSANE)
wes actually cites his bad vision as the thing that holds him back the most in life, especially when he's playing
once, during a fight with another player, the guy ripped his prescription goggles off his head, and... let's just say wes didn't hold back
that moment is generally regarded as the time wes nichols went crazy during a game. he knocked the guy out and got kicked out of the game. when asked about it, he said: "guys have been pulling my glasses off my face my entire life, and i'm... i'm sick of it. that's bully behavior, and i refuse to tolerate that,"
(the funny thing is that he's saying this in his posh british accent so it sounds super fancy when he's literally punching a guy unconscious)
speaking of wes's accent!
wes lived in england until he was thirteen, when his family moved to america. a common misconception about wes's life is that his family moved to america to further his hockey career, which is incorrect. his mom is from america, and his grandma was getting really sick. his mom is an only child, so they moved to help take care of her. a bonus of this move was that it helped wes's hockey career
because he moved to america so late in his life, his accent is pretty locked in. occasionally he'll say a word in a more american accent, but not very often
besides he still spends a lot of time around his family, and even when they're not together, they're probably calling at least once a week, although it's generally much more often than that, so they all keep their accents intact
when they moved to america, wes and his sisters all made an agreement that they were going to keep their accents. they love being from england, and their move to america wasn't exactly... voluntary, so it's very important to them all to keep their accents as much as possible
wes loves his accent, but he doesn't always love people's reaction to it
a lot of people didn't know that he's originally from england when he got drafted, so there was a lot of shock after his first interview about his accent
he's been playing with the melons for two seasons now, and he literally hasn't gone a single game without someone, whether that be announcers, or people interviewing him, mentioning his "elegant" british accent
he fucking hates it.
once he literally told a reporter "can you ask me about how awful i played? that has to be more interesting than where i'm from"
the issue is, he's like... the most british guy ever
calls everyone "mate," spells words with the extra u, is always referencing british pop culture that no one else gets
i feel like if manny were ever sassy he'd be called "cunty conty"
(i made this up bc i read "conty" as "cunty" 😔)
he for sure does and i did that on purpose
i named him "manny contreras" and then i was like "ok what nicknames would he have...." and i thought of "conty" and then thought that it sounds too much like cunty, and then i thought that's exactly why i should do it
for the most part, manny is just super funny and chill, but you know he's really pissed off when he gets an attitude, when he gets sassy. there are tiktok compilations of him getting sassy with refs, and the melons media team LOVES micing him up because they always get really good content out of it
manny is known throughout the league for his chirps and his insistence on teasing and making fun of literally every person in his vicinity. he even teases his coach at times, which always baffles people, but it's hilarious
to my lovely anons who have made ocs, and people who are going to make ocs in the future possibly, i've decided that i'm only going to write for the ocs that i create, just because i know them better and how i want them written, and i'm not sure how you guys would want them portrayed (: they'll be more like additional characters, y'know?
And what if sierra the shrew's mascot had a watermelon as a hat. Like half of a cut open watermelon -🪲
SHE TOTALLY DOES
sierra has a variety of different outfits that she wears to games, but her watermelon hat is her most notorious! lots of young fans wear it to games, specifically home games, but also away games (:
i also had this idea where the melons have like an endorsement situation going on with sour patch kid, and something sierra does is go around giving little kids packets of watermelon sour patch kids!
i know that song is about eating box, but the melons team was like "what's our goal song what could be related to watermelons that we could like celebrate to" and someone said that song as a joke, but then they were like "oh wait... that's actually kinda good"
it's a little bit of a joke within the league because it's so silly, but the melons are silly! despite being an nhl team, they don't take themselves too seriously. obviously, they do take games seriously and they try to win, but melons players are known for playing for their love of the game, they just go out there and have fun!
melons fans really love that this is their goal song because they like dancing to it, it's a really good celebration for the team and for the fans.
manny contreras always starts a little impromptu dance party on the ice, too. so sometimes it takes a little bit longer to get back to the game because manny refuses to stop dancing, and they keep playing the song as long as they see manny dancing 😭
