i think tsukiyama works bc even when they were friends they were never really on the same page? it was one sided for each of them about different things. yamaguchi used tsukki as a social shield to defend himself from others. tsukki used yamaguchi as a social crutch so he didnt have to be nice to others. they needed each other in different ways and felt like they were being selfish, so there was always a disconnect between them despite being the only one the other had. when it gets resolved they both realize they can be more selfish and ask for more bc the other is so willing to give it, they had just never asked
