another great band I caught at hopscotch, Cy Dune is what would happen if the Melvins, specifically the Big Business combo version, decided to make a blues-punk album.  an offshoot of Akron/Family, guitarist Seth Olinsky is all about distorted jams, guitar heroics, and noise violations, supporting his blues through punk songs with dual drummers to make all sorts of ruckus.

Seth Olinksy of Akron/Family fame has a side project in which he writes and records under the moniker Cy Dune. And on his solo debut, he's joined by an eclectic and yet accomplished group of musicians including NYC free jazz drummer Andrew Barker, drummer Chris Parker, and bassist Shahzad Ismaily. "Yellin'" is the latest single and video from the debut effort, No Recognize and much like the album's previous releases, it has a sludgy, distorted, scuzzy sound that's reminiscent of the old times blues -- played from a fucked up guitar that's been run over by a truck and  is miserably mis-tuned. But it's awesome in it's own right, and it much like the video, it'll make you want to cathartically fuck shit up.

Seth Olinksy of Akron/Family is releasing a solo effort with the moniker Cy Dune -- the album titled, No Recognize will see a March 5th release from Burger Records and Family Tree Records. "Where the Wild Things" is the first single from the album an it's a fuzzy, distortion heavy, scuzzy, stomping blues, similar to the sweaty, Delta blues of a Howlin' Wolf or Muddy Waters.

He's joined by drummer Chris Powell of Need New Body, Icy Demons, and Man Man; free jazz drummer Andrew Barker, who has played with William Parker, Marshall Allen, and Gold Sparkle; and bassist Shahzad Ismaily who has played with Sam Amidon, Bonnie Prince Billy, Yoko Ono and Laurie Anderson on "Move the Room," the second track off No Recognize, which Burger Records and Family Tree Records will release on March 5th. 

The track has a scuzzy, bluesy feel --it's a sounds a bit like Marc Bolan with a heavy dose of hallucinogens.
