No. 68 Celebrate 5 obscure holidays
IN PROGRESS
Okay, so I chose the 5 weird days I was going to 'celebrate'. The first one should have been Extraterrestrial Abductions Day on 20th March but I missed that, I think because I was working. The next one was Draw a Picture of a Bird Day on 8th April which I did do (though I think a day late but I'm counting it). So below is my picture of a bird. Now, I can't draw and this bird came out looking a bit more surprised than I was intending but it's got a beak and wings - slightly dodgy feet but ignore them. So yeah, my contribution to Draw a Picture of a Bird Day.
So regarding missing that first one. I'm either going to pick another weird day and do something for that or just wait until 20th March next year and celebrate it then but I haven't decided yet.

IN PROGRESS
I've been looking at what weird holidays and days there are and I've decided what ones I'm going to try to acknowledge:
Extraterrestrial Abductions Day, 20th March - Because why not?
Draw a Picture of a Bird Day, 8th April - Again, why not?
National Country Music Day, 4th July - Because it makes up most of what I listen to
National Women's Friendship Day, 17th September (third Sunday) - Because friendship is important
Tell a Story Day, 27th October - Because humankind would be nothing without stories
68. Set Off Fireworks on New Year's Eve
Vancouver is known for its fireworks - in four nights of the summer. A New Year's Eve fireworks show bewilderingly occurs only indoors. That should speak volumes for Vancouver's night life. Of course, I decided I should take matters into my own hands. Now, for the common citizen looking to buy fireworks in British Columbia, one must be strategic about their approach. There is only a very small window in which one can buy, sell, and set off fireworks and that time frame is in the week leading up to Halloween and Diwali - according to the British Columbia fireworks act. So, I decided to buy in this time and store my fireworks until the eve of Dec 31.
Although I don't have a picture of this - I completely forgot to take one as I was too caught up in the moment - I can tell you that the fireworks were fabulous. I decided to go for several whistling silver bullets that shot about 20 ft into the sky, with some booming cherry bombs, and a colourful bouquet for a grand finale. It was a bitterly cold night, but my excellent accomplice and I managed to set the whole thing off without a hitch in the middle of a suburban park on a wonderful New Year's Eve.
