5. What was your favourite book as a child?

I had a lot, actually. But I do remember rereading Anne of Green Gables and Secret Garden a lot. I also had these kiddie version of Sherlock Holmes and other books and I loved them so much. I think that’s really when I first fell in love with words and the magic they could do. I started writing not long after running out of books to read at the house.

14. Do you consider yourself a romantic?

No. I’m terrible at these things. I think I’d be a terrible (at least a very unconventional significant other). I’m not even romantic in the other sense of it. I’m too pragmatic and clinical, I think.

18. Tell us about an early childhood memory.

My parents always took us to see the ocean when my siblings and I were younger. I remember always looking forward to getting my feet wet and snorkelling and just being in the water and just feeling the salt and brine on my skin and in my hair. I remember the first time we went swimming in a reef, how all that life and color took my breath away. I always pretended I was a mermaid.

35. If money was not a factor, how would you live your life?

I’d write all day everyday. I’d do nothing else. I’d get my own island, get my little space, and write all day everyday. And maybe once in a while go see Day6.

44. If you could travel back to any era, which would you choose?

Probably the 80s? the way my parents talk about it makes it seem like such a fun era. The music and the TV shows reinforce this image too. I know my life isn’t going to be like a John Hughes film or anything but the nuances of the era are really fascinating to me.
