Shift 01 : The Summer Chapter

Shift 01 : The Summer Chapter is the first mini album and fifth studio release by global boy group GEN-ESIS. This release explores moving on and living for yourself in contrast to the other releases that explore romantic love and self expression. Each track shows the value of a calm, but upbeat life surrounded by close friends through a dream-like summer concept that echoes freedom and the fun, vibrant energy that comes with it. Additionally, through two solos we begin to learn the root origins of two members, written from their own experiences and feelings pre-debut. Shift 01 : The Summer Chapter is the first studio installment in The Shift of Generations Series.

The stage of acceptance features the mini albums first three tracks : intro (end of the world), JoyRide, and WE RIDE - All representing acceptance and how we begin to move on positively.

This intro provides a smooth transition from HYP3 ♡'s loving, relationship focused themes into this era's focus on moving on and building friendship. This track provides themes of vulnerability and relationship doubt, building the mini-albums themes through a sadder and more tranquil melody.

TRACK 2 : JoyRide - og. CORTIS

'JoyRide' is a song with themes of youthful freedom and escaping routine. In this song, the boys go through dark, dimly lit areas talking about the deep and necessary mean to just stop the clock for awhile, be calm, and experience life while they still can - free of routines, expectations, and relationships.

'WE RIDE' is a soft vocal track about unity and embracing the journey of life with friends. In the songs music video, the boys are pictured in mostly sunset-lit areas where they're driving cars, watching movies, and taking beach strolls. This track ends the stage of acceptance by building on those platonic relationships, leading to the next theme of the mini album.

The stage of excitement features the mini albums next three tracks : Better Things, Perfect Night, and Tamed-Dashed - All representing excitement and how we interact with people we care for.

'Better Things' is a dance-pop track about gen-esis leaving their lover and saying they have "better things to do" than focus on that person and shifts to the idea of personal growth and happiness. Although they acknowledge that leaving them may hurt, they also acknowledge that they've already made peace and are focusing on the future.

TRACK 5 : Perfect Night - og. LE SSERAFIM

'Perfect Night' conveys a message of even if your day is hard or imperfect, you'll always have friends to help cheer you up. This track helps extend the mini albums desire to just let go of everything and live freely and celebrates being flawless and free of worries because they're around people who no matter what, will not judge them.

TRACK 6 : Tamed-Dashed - og. ENHYPEN

'Tamed-Dashed' brings out an energetic summer vibe but also explores the dillema of choice. Although throughout this mini album, the boys constantly say that they're ready to move on and leave everything behind, this track leaves a small crack of hesitation that says they're not actually truly ready to move on just yet. This track ends the stage of excitement.

STAGE 3 : Lull (TRACKS 7-8)

The stage of lull features the mini albums two solo tracks : Greek God and Hampstead - Both representing two members of gen-esis.

'Greek God' by idol Noah Eriksson is a song about drama, bullies and gaining confidence during his teenage years. Noah stated the song was a reflection on how he was bullied when he was younger for being from a poor family but couldn't fight back because he had too much to lose, not wanting to ruin the one thing his mother fought for, his education. Noah later commented that his upbringing is the reason why he was so persistent to debut in GEN-ESIS.

TRACK 8 : Hampstead - og. Ariana Grande

'Hampstead' by idol Kai Kalua Hasegawa is a soft ballad about finding acceptance. Kai stated that the song is a reflection of how it took him a long time to accept himself, especially in the public eye. Kai recently came out saying that the groups fans- called vividz, helped them accept his use of they/them pronouns and not being fully masculine. Kai, in an earlier interview in reference to Hampstead this statement : "I wrote this song while on the struck with venom tour. Not only about my identity but about a past lover I dated during production of WE:NEXT"
