Maya wasn’t a beach person nor was she a morning person --- two things she was contradicting by being being here. But sleep evading her yet again, she could blame the coffee but at this point there was so much of it in her system she wouldn’t be surprised if if had no effect on her, at least she had a few hours of shut eye and she supposed it would have to do. Winding up barefoot at the beach wasn’t something she planned, it just happened. Maya became a city person the day she moved to New York, living on an island and being surrounded water took the wonder out it, and the city held too mystery to give it up, but she but even then she couldn’t deny the effect the ocean had on her. Watching the water lapping the shore, the steady push a pull of the waves, calmness washed over her and Maya found switching her brain off to be easier than anticipated.
There were a few people scattered about, but that didn’t stop her feet from kicking at the water lightly, sending sprays of sand and water into the air. She should’ve been paying more attention, should’ve been consciously aware of her surroundings but all her mind was capable of doing was to keep her moving, it wasn’t until she kicked a little too strongly she looked up as it splashed someone in front of her, “Ah, shit, I’m so sorry,” she spoke, instantly snapping back to reality, “I wasn’t looki---” Words froze as the face came to clarity.
“Noah...?” she breathed out, “Is that you?” Confusion flashed across her face at the same time recognition did, but the question still fell from her lips, she needed sound proof that her mind wasn’t playing tricks on her.
