more hymn to dionysus spoilies

the thing that fucking gets me the most of all is how dionysus and phaidros both have this 'you are so wonderful and i want to keep you with me and be around you always' vibe for each other while secretly thinking the other one is just humoring them. if that ain't the most neurodivergent vibe. even 700 years later, they're both just waiting for the other one to get tired of them and leave.

i have so much love for phaidros. i see so much of myself in phaidros, but dionysus is also such a mood. he's constantly like "no one wants me around that long. i can't seem normal for very long. no one wants to see me twice." and like it makes sense, considering the madness and all, but dionysus the person is delightful, and he's such a breath of fresh air for phaidros and doesn't even see it. he doesn't see how phaidros had come to the point of wanting to die because he's so worn down and burnt out from his fucking duty and losing people, but dionysus makes that better. just by being his weird ass self.

phaidros doesn't want him to be normal, he just wants him.

phaidros is my everything. he's such a good character. i go from wanting to shake him to wanting to hold him in the space of a chapter. he's flawed, he's a lil stupid, he's doing his best. he's got so much trauma and is such a product of the way he was raised and the things that have happened to him, and he knows that. he's one of those self aware neurodivergents who can see that they're Not Right and understand why but can't seem to do anything to be any other way and fuck i relate to that so hard. but he wants whimsy and magic and to be loved so so desperately and that's why he clings to dionysus and their dynamic is just so fucking beautiful.

a mad god, a witch, a marvel (in the non theban sense), and he just wants to show one broken man all the shades of blue there are and keep him alive.

you can tell that i am deeply obsessed with the mars house because i now have two physical copies of it. one to rebind and keep in a place of honor in my library and one to stuff full of post it notes full of my comments while i try to climb inside gale's brain.
