NSHSS members can nominate educators who have made a difference in their lives through the Educator of Distinction (EOD) program. Eric Thiel, who was nominated by one of his students for the EOD program, also received the Top Educator of the Year (EOY) award from NSHSS.
NSHSS is not just about students, we like to honor educators for their achievements as well!
Fundraiser
I am a high school senior who has been offered the unique opportunity to travel to Sweden this coming December for Nobel Week. This opportunity has been given to me through NSHSS who is also willing to give out five $1500 grants to some of their members. I have already applied for one of these grants, hoping it would provide me with the funds to go. Being thorough, as well as trying to persuade my mum that we can afford this, I did all of the math to find out how much it would cost to do this trip. The travel grant covers all of my time in Sweden and the airfare perfectly! There is just one problem. It does not cover getting to and from the airport. This is terrible for me since I live 300 miles from an airport that would be able to complete this flight. All of our cars have terrible gas mileage, so the price to go to Portland and back twice, once to drop me off and once to pick me up, works out to be $300. The extra two hundred dollars in my goal price would go towards paying for a hotel room for the nights I am in Portland. You see, I don't have a driver's licence, so someone else is going to be driving me there, and will also have to drive back. And we all know that it isn't wise to drive six hundred miles in one day, therefore we need money for a hotel room. If you would be willing to support me by donating, that would be wonderful. I'd love to be able to go to Sweden for a week and participate in this event, so if some generous people out there could help out with what the grant doesn't cover, I would be ecstatic.
