also tell me more about noce (ლ♡ε♡ ლ) just talk about her i love her
(You mean you’re painfully gay for her, I know your game)
Nocens is a half-drow born to a human mother and a drow father. Her father fled the Underdark after his House suffered an attack mounted by another Drow Noble family with his two sons for fear of being used as fodder in his sister’s (the head of the family) chess game. Yadda, yadda, i think you all know this by now, her official write up is in my ocs tag…
-cracks knuckles- Nocens is 5ft 8 inches of distrust, volatile luck, and jackass-levels of japery. She gives as good as she gets (in exactly the way you’re thinking, Linden) and she prides herself on doing stupid ass shit just for the fun of it. She is the embodiment of “do it for the vine”. When she’s not fucking around, she tends to focus her time honing her thief skills while taking up odd jobs in the less savory parts of town. Many surface-nobles have called upon her to steal important documents, blackmail material, and all sorts of illicit things from other nobles, and Noce has on occasion played both sides just to instigate things to gain herself more business.
She is a very thinks-in-the-present type of person and she rarely lets past things dwell. If she sees something she wants, she goes for it. If she learns of something she wants to do, she does it. If she sees someone interesting sitting alone at a bar with a forest rat and a half-eaten plate of tavern slop, then by howdy she will sit herself down at their side and ask for their life story.
Noce is the kind of person you want in your corner, cuz if she’s anywhere else, you best look out.
My character’s name is Nocens and shes a half-drow half-human Ninja (this is pathfinder so its sorta a cross between a rogue and a monk). She was raised on the surface and was born to a drow father and human mother. Her story all starts with her father.
Drow society is very tumultuous and rife with infighting, but stability is only maintained by order of the spider goddess Lolth. If she learns of warring houses, hellfire is rained down and that’s how you get driders. To avoid this sorta thing, the infighting is done in secret, through assassinations and subterfuge. Noce’s father was a high ranking noble but in a matriarchal society, that doesn’t mean as much as it should when it comes to keeping alive. Her dad fled with his two young sons to the surface to avoid being used as fodder for his sister (the head of the house) in her political games against the enemy house. His house fell sometime after he left and he kept a low profile to avoid being found by assassins wishing to wipe the family name from the earth. After settling down in an unscrupulous port city, Noce’s father met Noce’s mom and as they say, the rest is history.
Noce was raised alongside her two full-drow brothers in a city that cared more about slitting throats and cutting purses than about who exactly was residing within its limits. Though they were drow they managed to live fairly unseen and unbothered. Noce’s mother died and Noce became immersed in drow culture, inasmuch as she could be when spending her time with her brothers who had only called the Underdark their home for a few scant years. She learned about her past, of her family’s history, and of the importance of keeping her identity and heritage a secret. In the Underdark, a fallen house could be revived easily if a female heir presented herself to the governing council and asked for the house to be reinstated in the city’s registries. Enemies were still abundant. It would never be safe for someone like her.
Specifically, her father’s sister, Noce’s aunt, was thought to still be alive, biding her time as she attached herself to another (lower) noble house through marriage. Noce, as the other only living female heir, her half-blood status be damned, still presented a challenge to the aunt’s claim to the role she’d lost so very long ago. If Noce were to ever take her case to the council’s doorstep, it could mean the aunt’s last chance to reclaim her lost power to be snatched from her grasp in an instant. Power means everything to the drow, and no noble would ever suffer the indignity of being shoved to the side by a half-blooded surface-dwelling bastard.
The dangers outweigh the potential gain for Noce. If Noce’s existence were to ever be made known, Noce could be at risk of assassination, kidnapping, and even slavery if she were to be brought back to the Underdark and pressed into her aunt’s care. A puppet heir to be manipulated and targeted should more enemies come calling.
Noce isn’t the type to want power for herself, or to want a role that would invite conflict and bothersome political fuckery. For her, living her life as a shadow is enough.
Fun Facts:
- Her dad is literally Dio. If you try to fuck him, you will probably be eaten alive.
- Nocens (I call her Noce for short, like Noh-ssss) is a chaotic neutral ninja who has a cult in game due to her badassery. She is very proud of this fact. She brings it up often.
- She falls off things a lot, usually right after doing something insanely badass. She pretends it was intentional. It never is.
- The only person so far who has ever picked up on the fact that she’s not half surface elf was a little girl stricken with lycanthropy who asked her “Why does your skin look funny?”
- I’ve spoken with the DM about her in length and there’s potential for an arc where Noce’s father is kidnapped and taken to the Underdark. This would probably result in Noce coming clean to the party and asking them to aid her in rescuing him, and ultimately a confrontation with Noce’s aunt as they fight over the role of matriarch to their long-dead house.
- Noce swings both ways. Violently. With a knife. But also in the sack. She’s pretty blasé about it all.
- She pisses off 50% of the npcs she encounters. The other 50% adore her.
