⁣ Samsung Galaxy Note 10+⁣ Taken on 11/10/2020.⁣ ⁣ *⁣ Nocera Umbra is a small stone medieval town located in the heart of Umbria.⁣ ⁣ Its buildings of major artistic value are without doubt the cathedral and the church of St. Francis.⁣ ⁣ The latter was built between the 14th and 15th centuries and now houses the town's 'Pinacoteca' (a public art gallery with a prime focus on paintings). ⁣ Canon EOS 250D | 50mm | 1/640s | f/5.6 | ISO 100⁣ Taken on 11/10/2020.⁣ ⁣ Impressively perched on a rocky spur overlooking the River Topino and the River Flaminia, Nocera Umbra was a natural defensive location along the ancient 'Via Flaminia' road and a prized position for anyone who controlled it, not least the Longobards who opposed the Duchy of Urbino.⁣ ⁣ As I tried to capture in this photo taken last year, Nocera Umbra is still surrounded by parts of the original castle walls and dominated by the large tower called the 'Campanaccio', which is all that remains of the original fortress.⁣ ⁣ 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲:⁣ ⁣ Take a train from Ancona, Fabriano or Foligno to Nocera Umbra Scalo station. Then catch the nr. 1 urban bus to Nocera Umbra with 'BusItalia'. Get off at Nocera Umbra – which, technically, is called Nocera Umbra Scalo – and then catch the E1, E058 or E429 bus to the town, Monday to Saturday. ⁣ Canon EOS 250D | 24mm | 1/80s | f/7.1 | ISO 100 {Photo 1}⁣ Canon EOS 250D | 19mm | 1/200s | f/7.1 | ISO 100 {Photo 2}⁣ Both taken on 11/10/2020.⁣ ⁣ Nocera Umbra is a marvellous medieval town that was founded by the ancient Umbrians in the 6th century BC.⁣ ⁣ It is still surrounded by parts of the original castle walls and dominated by the large tower called the 'Campanaccio', which is all that remains of the original fortress around which the original town developed. Even so, the fact that it still stands today makes a visit to Nocera Umbra a fabulous outing.⁣ ⁣ Besides the multitude of medieval monuments and museums that there are to explore, such as the Archaeological Museum and the Art Gallery, what fascinated me so much was the pinkish tone of the stone walls called 'tufo' (tuff) that differs from the golden tuff rock found in Southern Tuscany, more specifically in the provinces of Siena and Grosseto.⁣ ⁣ Back to Nocera Umbra, and what I was also amazed by was the way in which the same street could look so different to the naked eye from opposite ends. For example, the first photo focuses on the charming archway in the centre whereas the second draws our attention to the wonderful row of houses on the right. Yet it's the same street!⁣ ⁣ 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲:⁣ ⁣ Nocera Umbra is best reached by bus via Foligno, Monday to Saturday.
