all things headphones
So I was walking to my afternoon class today, thinking about what I would do my journal entry over for this week. I walked in front of the Memorial Student Center and passed at least six students. Every single one of the students I passed had headphones in. I immediately thought... “what has our generation become??” It blows my mind how little of social interaction we have face-to-face on campus. I am guilty of it too! I plug in my headphones and tune the rest of the world around me out. I call my mom to avoid getting handed another flyer or pretend I am deep into thought, looking a text message to avoid an awkward encounter with someone that I know of but have never met. Thank you social media for that. I think it was in the beginner social media class where my teacher played a video of two strangers walking and not talking because they were on their phone, and then the same video played again as if they had stopped and talked to each other instead of being on their phones. Spoiler alert -- they ended up being soulmates. Crazy right ?!?! I wonder what this campus would be like if we actually did what our tradition says we do. If we were to hang up and hang out and say “Howdy!” to strangers. What do you think are some ways that we, as students, can make a change for a friendlier environment?
