Dear Passenger,
Forced deportations of refugees and migrants happen regularly on passenger flights from Copenhagen Airport.
You can stop them.
Deportation is an unacceptable act of coercion towards people whose only crime it is to have searched for safety and a better life in another country.
Here are some steps you can follow to stop a deportation happening on your flight:
1. Ask at check in and look out for police (possibly in plain clothes) escorting somebody to check-in.
2. Approach the person on board and ask if this deportation is being carried out against their will.
3. On the plane, ask to talk to the pilot, and inform him/her of what is taking place, and that you do not want this to happen on your flight.
4. If the airline decides to carry on, stand up and refuse to sit down. Encourage other passengers to do the same.
The flight cannot take off when you are standing up, and members of staff cannot physically force you to take your seat.
On the plane, the pilot has the ultimate say on whether the person being deported will remain on the flight; you can affect the decision by speaking up, standing up and refusing to sit down.
Commercial airlines allow deportations to occur on their planes. They need to be ready to respond to their clients. If you do not support these airlines in carrying out deportations, let them know.
