How about instead of a sentence, I give you a scene from one of my yet-to-be-written AUs? Believe me, it’s not going to make sense otherwise. Lol. This is a variation of my other Goddess AU in a more... Hades meets Persephone type of way. Basically: Niamh, Goddess of Storms and the Night Skies, falls in love with Leliana, Goddess of Spring and the Hunt, whom unintentionally becomes trapped in her realm after being chased there by Marjolaine, Goddess of Chaos and Discord.
Leliana knew that the woman before her was perhaps the most rarely seen among all the deities within the Divine Realm. She had always heard rumors of a Goddess who was utterly cold and as unforgiving as she was beautiful—a winter’s kiss enrobed within a maelstrom of lightning and thunder.
Others stated that Niamh was a coward, who hid beneath the shadows beyond the moon’s light. To see her visage was a curse, they said, for her unsightly appearance was as hideous as her soul. Anyone unfortunate to forget that fact—immortal or otherwise—would be brought to their knees in despair as they were chained forever within the Goddess’ Realm of Eternal Night as punishment, and what personal effects they had were worn by the vengeful deity as trophies of the lives she had stolen.
Leliana couldn’t even begin to recall how such absurd lies began.
Other than her resplendent robes—dark as the coats and feathers of Niamh’s seemingly endless wolf and raven familiars—the only piece of jewelry the other woman wore was a diadem, which was banded with such gleaming diamonds that Leliana wasn’t entirely convinced they weren’t actual stars. It only served to further enhance the otherworldly beauty of a Goddess who was the storms and night skies made flesh.
Regardless, she was grateful that Niamh had been so welcoming to her despite her unintentional trespass even as the other woman regretted she couldn’t undo the veil that had already fallen over the Realm of Eternal Night. The seasons were already turning in the mortal world, and so they would remain there until winter returned to the land--a full six months away.
As Ruler of the Court of Evergreen, Leliana wondered how well her colleagues were faring without her now that spring was fully underway. She often thought of her deer and dove familiars, hoping they weren’t too distressed with her absence. Of everything, she thought she would miss the rich colors of nature so prevalent in her realm or just the simple warmth of the sun, but perhaps sensing her homesickness, Niamh had sought a way to ease such an ache.
Taking a break from her duties as Sovereign of the Obsidian Court, Niamh had led her to one of the lushest clearings within the Realm of Eternal Night—one where the moon shone brightest down upon—and stated Leliana could do as she pleased with it.
She had stared at the other woman in disbelief for a moment, wondering if perhaps she misheard, but Niamh only smiled in reassurance.
“I do not wish for you to feel like a prisoner here, Leliana. I am more than happy to relinquish a space within it you may call your own, especially if it provides you any comfort.” She glanced at the sky above them. “The moon is not the sun, no, but the light it exudes here can only serve to enhance what color and beauty you decide to grace my realm with.”
