Boosh Photo Challenge, Day 29: Booshlr

Obviously, I didn't go for a literal interpretation of today's prompt. But the prompt made me remember the excitement of helping organize and assemble the Noel's 40th birthday scrapbook last year, to mark his 40th birthday, and of how proud it all made me feel to see what you'd accomplished, to be a part of this community--to witness the proof of how wonderful and generous and creative and talented Booshlrs really are. From Veronika's stunning art to Hannah's spectacular scrapbooking skills to Kristina's dedication, care, and talent in handwriting in the names of literally hundreds of Booshlrs from all over the world who wanted to wish Noel a happy birthday, to every single amazing, thoughtful, beautiful, touching entry and gift included. True fact: I cried the first time I looked through the completed scrapbook, because I was so overwhelmed by the sense of how great the Booshlr community really is, and what they accomplish when they set their minds to something, and how lucky we all are to have been brought together out of this shared love for something.

Anyway, Booshlrs: you lot are amazing, and this was the proof. And don't ever let yourselves forget it. This fandom is great because of the people in it!

Guess what arrived in London today?

The Noels40th Scrapbook, that's what! I got confirmation today that it's been delivered. Just in time for the big day! 

This is fantastic news, and I just want to thank all of you who participated again for making this such a beautiful project and fantastic, heartfelt gift for Noel.

HOWEVER, now that it's there, I'd also like to ask a favor of all of you. Noel's management can't guarantee a response from him, which is only fair--he gets a LOT of mail, and he's a busy person. And tomorrow is his 40th birthday, which he probably isn't going to spend picking up parcels from his management. So please, please be understanding and don't pester Noel for a response. There's not much more to suck the joy out of a gift than being constantly nagged for feedback about it, you know? So please, do him a favor--consider it a birthday gift--and don't send him tweets looking for a response on a specific gift, especially not twenty tweets in a row about the same gift. I know that we all put our hearts into this, and of course it's hard to wait for a response, or accept that we might not get one, but... a good deed is its own reward. It really is. And you know he's worth it.

Besides, if there's anything that we've learned from Noel, it's to give openly and honestly of ourselves, even if we don't get the response we were hoping for. Right? So let's honor him with this and be respectful. Sending him one nice birthday tweet is GREAT, though. Sending birthday love is a good thing. :D

Having said that... it's already officially Fielding's 40th in Australia and the UK, so let the Noelgeddon begin! It's time to kick this party off!

The Scrapbook arrived here yesterday, so I could put the finishing touches on it, like the URL booklet, which you can see here. (It's glued to a page within the scrapbook, but I took pics before doing that.) I also took advantage of the opportunity to get a few more pics, and because none of these shots compromise anybody's privacy, you can enjoy these in all their high-res glory! Hopefully, this gives everybody a taste of just how GORGEOUS this book is in person. I honestly don't have the words to do justice to how creative and talented and thoughtful and generous and lovely all your contributions were. I feel SO PROUD of this fandom, and so lucky to be part of it. :)

Next stop for the scrapbook is Noel's management. As you can see, it'll be going with a birthday card, because no gift is complete without a card! This one says inside, "You bring beauty to the world just by being who you are." It seemed appropriate. It's signed with love and best wishes from all the Fieldmice of the World.

I also wrote this inside it:

"Dear Noel,

When we started this project, I hoped other people would want to get involved, but I never could have anticipated how many of them! In the end, nearly 400 of your fans, from many different countries and several continents, participated in some way. Their enthusiasm, talent, kindness, and generosity blew my mind--but you know, they get that from you. They've learned from your example, and learned well.

I'm sure that you became a comedian to make people laugh, rather than to inspire them to change themselves and the world around them, but I hope that as you read through this book, it's clear to you that you have done both. Brilliantly. A milestone birthday seemed like the perfect time to show you that what you do matters, even beyond the laughs, and you've accomplished much more in your first 40 years than even YOUR imagination could envision.

Here's to another 40 years of brilliance (at least)!
