Living in Hawaii has it’s perks, however, it also has a lot of downsides. And one of these is not being included in Free Shipping offers from online retailers.
Kipling is currently offering Free (Ground) Shipping for all US orders from their online store, but Hawaii isn’t included, again. I didn’t find this out until I was checking out only to be tagged with a $10 shipping charge. Why was my order being tagged for the shipping? Surely Hawaii is a part of the US, right? And, it didn’t have a special caveat under the Free Shipping banner. Also, on their Shipping Methods & Costs page, “Ground” is listed on the Hawaii shipping table.
So I contacted their customer service to find out why. Their response? “The free shipping is for orders shipping standard ground. Unfortunately, orders shipping to Hawaii ship via the USPS which is not standard ground. That is why the shipping charge would still apply. We regret any inconvenience that this may cause.”
Uh, yeah okay.... On their Shipping Methods & Costs page it didn’t state that “Ground” to Hawaii is sent via USPS, which isn’t “standard ground”. Geez, if you’re gonna list the method as “Ground” on the Hawaii shipping table, (as well as the contiguous US table) wouldn’t that imply UPS or FedEx?
I looked deeper at their website and found on a separate Shipping Rules & Restrictions page that ALL shipments to Hawaii is sent via USPS. HELLO?! This would’ve helped if they had this on the Shipping Methods & Costs page, right below the Hawaii Shipping table, and/or used “USPS” instead of “Ground” in the table.
Anyway, I’ve been disappointed yet again by another retailer not honoring, or offering Free Shipping to Hawaii, and thus I won’t be completing my order.
