“What is it?” Adam asked, smiling at Belle from across the table. She looked well… radiant was perhaps the only way to describe the way she looked. He did briefly consider that he thought that perhaps almost every time he looked at her.
But no - maybe it was the way that her pink gown brought out the rosy hue of her cheeks. Or even just the way she was biting on her lower lip at this moment, as though she had something to contemplate.
Or maybe he was just hopelessly in love with the woman across from him - and that even if what she needed to tell him was that there was a body that needed to be hidden out in the garden, he would waste no time rushing out to dispose of it.
Belle had been fretting the entire day about how best to tell Adam that they were expecting a baby. He’d been away on urgent business when she’d come over with her first bout of morning sickness, causing Mrs Potts to send her to bed and call the midwife from the nearest village to examine her and impart the happy news to the mother to be.
Then her husband had returned from his visit and she’d been too swept up in seeing him again and hearing tales of his journey to find an opportune moment to tell him. Not until they were sat in their rooms eating dinner and had a moment alone from prying servant eyes.
“I’m going to need more gowns made.” She informed him as she took his hand, trying to keep a serious face and not letting a smile break through. It was hard, she was an incredibly smiley person. Belle had never really been one for material possessions so asking for new gowns would certainly pique anyone’s interest if they knew her well. “I doubt I’ll be able to fit in the ones I have before long, my corset’s already feeling tight.” To help her lover along with unlocking her riddle, she moved her free hand and placed it on her stomach where even now the barest hint of a bump was hidden beneath her skirts and petticoats.
