It's Been Over a Week (I'm still stupid)
Well, we have been in Germany for over a week now. I really miss “home.” By that I mean my house, that I love and the place I had grown some serious roots in.
Things here are still confusing and the driving looks scary. We are still renting a car that does not fit our whole family and it is a little bit of a bummer. I am supposed to be studying for my drivers license but I am procrastinating like a boss.
We have been looking at houses, some of them are so big! they are all much larger than I anticipated them being but none are open concept and non have closets. Some rooms are so small we would consider them closets, in America. There is one, that I really do love and it has 3 kitchens! Now after talking with a dear friend of mine I realize that I can have a “crafting” kitchen, a “baking” kitchen and a “meal” kitchen. This would be a fantastic way to divide things so as not to overload any one kitchen. Or one could just be used as a bar. The other thing to consider is that internet here is much slower and cell phones run on a 3g network. So having multiple electronic devices constantly eating bandwidth is going to be one of our main issues. Now all of this is mere convenience their are practical things to consider such as winter, snow, how far the village is from Kaiserslautern, are there markets, are there bakeries, busses, bike paths, sports, and school district. I am also leaning toward finding something less excited about church. I am not even sure if that is a thing or not.
I have become proficient at garbage and so have my children. Garbage here is almost like speaking another language! The level of recycling is fantastic. I really wish there was more like it in Modesto. We have a yellow bag that is for anything recyclable. if its aluminum or has a recycle symbol on it and plastic it goes in yellow this would include styrofoam to go boxes, if its paper it goes in blue can (unless its coated cardboard like milk, then it goes in yellow), if its compostable it goes in bio which is a light brown can in our village, and everything else goes in restmül, and glass goes in a specific area usually located in the center-ish part of your village and is separated by color.
Cell phones! We have been trying to set up cellphones for 3 days, this is not because of problems they have here but because it has been so difficult to unlock our phones and we do not want to buy more phones if we don’t have to.
Our temporary housing is nice but there are no air-conditioners here, our oven has been tripping the breaker box so we have been using the crock-pot, and there are 2 hives of yellow not bees trying to live outside. Yellow not bees are assholes and should be murdered but we are waiting and trying to not piss any of them off.
