April 10th is my Mommy's birthday and National Siblings Day. My mother and the person was intents and purposes, my sibling, but biologically my uncle and parrain, are both ancestors. This year, that day would also be the day my alma mater would celebrate Founders Day. As I watched the Convocation with fellow Spelman Sisters, I was overcome with emotion. From Resonance's moving spoken word and spirituals filled memorial, the honorees' uplifting reflections, charges, and words of affirmation; "A Choice to Change the World," and the Spelman Hymn, I was assured and comforted because I was nestled in my beloved community. My aloneness and my loneliness took a second seat. There IS a balm in Gilead. To keep it all in perspective, I think of my Spelman Sister and AKA Soror Dr. Christine who also knows grief profoundly. If five years has been hell for me, 50 years... What manner of woman is she? #ComeYeDisconsolate #FeastOnYourLife #UndauntedByTheFight #SpelmanFoundersDay #HesTheOne #QueSeraSera #FortressAroundYourHeart #LookToTheRainbow #LoafofBreadContainerofMilkStickofButter #Magnificat #NoLoveDying (at Elysian Fields Avenue)
#ThisIsUs... still. #TheLittleThings Our new normal has been much aggrieved. However, knowing I would squeal with delight at seeing the exact Easter egg dye I would want without even asking, presence at my avocational activities, and reading and paying attention to the arts section in the newspaper and keeping me apprised of them, are so buoying. For us the living, it is still important and even now more than ever, to celebrate and observe beloved traditions. It's urgent. Voids, huge voids, must be filled more sincerely, intentionally, and lovingly. #NoLoveDying #YeahYaRight #FeastOnYourLife #Magnificat #VissidArte #HappyEaster!!! 🐣 (at Home Sweet Home, My Tara!)
This is OUR song. Most joyous of birthdays to my Mommy's doppelgänger @DianaRoss!!! And I miss... Your loving The arms that used to hold me so close And the lips that used touch mine so tenderly And still trying to be assured by what you said because we knew May 23, 2014 would come and we had to let go... Ain't no mountain high enough Ain't no valley low enough Ain't no river wild enough To keep me from you #NoLoveDying ⚜️ #Magnificat #Repost @vintageblackglamour ・・・ Happy 74th (!) Birthday to one of our most enduring legends, @DianaRoss! Ms. Ross is performing one of signature classics in this clip, the Ashford & Simpson-penned “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” with full orchestra in 1978. You can catch the full performance on YouTube. #DianaRoss #vintageblackglamour (at Elysian Fields Avenue)

In the midst and in spite of our heartache, there is still beauty. #illuminations #VissidArte #NoLoveDying "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. “Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. “Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. “Blessed are the merciful, for they will receive mercy. “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God. “Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. “Blessed are you when people revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you. And I kept reading... “You are the salt of the earth; but if salt has lost its taste, how can its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything, but is thrown out and trampled under foot. “You are the light of the world. A city built on a hill cannot be hid. No one after lighting a lamp puts it under the bushel basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven." 📖 Matthew 5:3-16 (at St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Church)
