On the Road

I don't really mind trains: hours of blurred nature, speeding from trees to wheat fields to occasional lakes, like a flipbook steadily revealing itself through rain-splattered windows. It's a serene boredom, a tranquility that allowed my younger self to imagine a stick figure jumping over and overcoming obstacles in my scenery as he tries to keep up with our train, make up stories for what lies beyond the walls of flora and fauna, or have conversations about which Marvel superhero is the best with fellow passengers such as Thomas while his mother sleeps beside him.
