It’s been almost a year. The Indigenous Peoples March for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Woman here in #pdx my good friend Candi Brings Plenty @twospiritwarriorqueen organized an led it. The Aztec Dancers and so many of the Condor people came. The call went out for drummers and singers. It was my humble honor to participate. We gathered, we talked and listened. We (the drummers and singers) led the way as we marched towards the Willamette River. I was deep into the drum trance as we marched and sang. It was then I noticed all of the ghosts joining us. They came out of the ground and buildings and joined our procession. They were so happy, joyous even. They were being remembered and spoken for. We reached the river and fanned out on the banks. An invocation was performed and when the conch horns blew even more spirits surged up from the river and joined us. So many lost souls. As I looked back up the hill I saw them mixed with the living, silently watching. I have been a Witch over 30 years, dealing with spirits isn’t frightening or scary it’s just something we do. This was transcendent, I had tears streaming down my face in a good way. So much joy at just being remembered. The ceremony was held and they were released. After being stuck for so long they rose on the smoke of the incense with our prayers and finally moved to the other world. I have tears just recounting this experience. So, please, stop and light a candle and say a prayer for all of the missing and murdered people in this world.
