a brief* review of TransTape
*not actually all that brief
binding: 8/10. not as flat as one of my gc2b binders, obviously, but not half bad. like, i went out. in public. in a t-shirt. i can’t prove this to you because i forgot to save any of the snapchat pics i took so you’ll just have to believe me.
application: 5/10. i’ve admittedly only tried once, but it’s not as easy as it looks. there’s a lot of weird body angles involved.
comfort: 11/10. y’all u can sleep !! with it on !! revolutionary tbh.
longevity: 9/10. u can leave it on 3-6 days and i did for 5 which is maybe the longest i’ve gone without wearing a proper binder in like 2 and a half years.
showering: 4/10. bizarre (and honestly p unpleasant) experience. TransTape is marketed as waterproof and like i guess?? in that water doesn’t dissolve the adhesive but like ?? the tape gets WET. and it takes f o r e v e r to dry.
removal: -3/10. painful. also messy. u gotta use oil to dissolve the adhesive and then ur all oily and also covered in adhesive residue. unpleasant experience i don’t recommend.
overall: solid 7/10. taping is almost certainly not going to replace binding for me if only because i’d have to keep buying more tape over and over, and i already own three binders. nevertheless, i can see this being a nice change of pace for me especially in the summer when binders are basically heatstroke inducing death traps and dysphoria makes swimming without one nigh on impossible.
