diary of a non eq actor
woooooowwwwwzzaaa. It's been a long time. But who can blame me right? I was finishing school, and moving across the country to.... NYC! I actually did it. was scared out of my bloody mind about it. but I did it. I've been in the city for about 8 weeks now and so far I am LOVING it!! I've been auditioning like a crazy person! I've had a few call backs for ity bity things, and one offer on a little tour which I had to turn down...unfortunate circumstances. But I feel like I'm really doing well here! I've made some audition buddies, and I've just finished up the most awesome week of my life at The Open Jar institute. Everything seems to be falling into place...now if only I could book something so I won't go crazy. The biggest difference here in the city is that I'm having to finally deal with being "non-eq" ie: an actor that does not belong to the Actors Union. Everyone has to start somewhere right? Being Non eq is an interesting thing. It usually means that at equity calls I get there super early in the morning, wait around for hours, sign my name, and hope to be seen. So far I've had pretty good luck in that department (knock on wood that that luck continues). I have another audition equity audition tomorrow that I'm super excited about. Right now I'm of the mind set to just audition for everything. I feel I am super prepared when I go into those auditions, so hopefully I'm making a good impression on the casting directors here. I know that the odds of me booking something big in this first year of being here are pretty slim, but even if I could manage to get a regional thing I would be stoked!!
Well, that's all for now:)
