★ darkness's sanctuary || vanitas & riku
Now a newly named master, Riku felt all the more doubtful -- and all the more cautious. Such a title bore an immense amount of responsibility; and while it certainly may have given him a one up on Sora, he was beginning to wonder whether the grand wizard had made a mistake or not. While both Yen Sid and Mickey had reassured him that he had successfully managed to deflect darkness altogether, Riku still had his qualms. After all, Ansem's shadow of a memory had haunted him since the very day he had broken free from his possession. What was to say that Ansem -- or some other dark form of matter -- would find a loophole and manage to bring Riku back down to the abysmal depths? And then where would his tainted title get him?
Sighing, Riku hand a hand through his hair as he kicked the door to the Tower open. He needed to leave this place. For some reason, it just made him all the more worried. The silverette looked around, expecting to see his brown-haired friend bound up to him like a pet. "Still out on his little 'trip', I guess," he mused aloud, letting his hand fall from his head. "Guess I'd better chase after him and get some company."
Without much thought, Riku summoned his Keyblade and traveled the crossroads between worlds, choosing to stop by the one world that meant the most to him: Notre Dame. Even if Sora's little side-trip hadn't taken them there, he at least wanted to check up on Quasimodo and -- hopefully -- the many feats he was able to overcome. Riku had seen a lot of himself in the hunchbacked man; doubts, fears...qualities that led him astray.
He pushed the church's doors open, letting their wooden panels creak and notify those inside of his arrival. The place looked empty, just as it had been before. Perhaps a lot of people weren't seeking refuge since Frollo was gone? Suddenly, the image of a familiar boy caught Riku's eyes as he stepped further inside. "Sora," he called, letting his voice echo on and off the cathedral's high walls. "Your trip was to here, huh? What, you wanted to check up on Quasi, too?" Riku started walked over towards the stained glass and over towards the figure of his friend, who looked like he was bathing in the window's colorful lights.
"Hey, don't tell me you're actually standing while slee--"
Eyes immediately narrowed as he saw the mysterious boy's hair color remain a raven black. His hair was the exact same style, his physique the exact same type...--but the growing aura of darkness that stemmed from the boy was immensely different. Riku felt his shoulders tense up as he advanced closer, a thin lipped line replacing his once friendly smile. "...Who are you?"
