Shapiro argues that the recent resurgence of enthusiasm for republican political institutions is misguided. While he agrees with Philip Pettit and others that non-domination is the bedrock of justice, he argues that this ideal is better realized through majoritarian institutional arrangements than the various republican schemes that are currently on offer.
