having recently been diagnosed with diabetes, I am once again incredibly grateful for living in a socialist society.
all things connected to my blood glucose monitor, including the little stick things for testing the blood
as of last week, any doctor’s visit until December 26th for any medical reason.
metformin (very low cost)
my blood pressure medication (also at low cost. Both of these for about 3 months was about the price of a burger meal at a McD or BK)
Things I also get for free in a country with less corruption that certain other countries:
a doctor who understands that the ultimate treatment goal of diabetes t2 isn’t just to control glucose levels but to increase insulin sensitivity so the body can do it’s thing like it’s supposed to.
hence, no doctor whose main advice is to just stop eating carbs (leading to greater insulin resistance and thus making things worse)
I pay for these things with my high taxes of course, but here is the thing about taxes: they pay for a civilized society. That’s essentially what you pay for when you pay taxes. They’re not there to punish you, or charge you for things you don’t need.
