Here’s part two of yesterday’s fic for @luna13e-blog perspectives of Dorcas and Sirius. cw: implied homophobia
Nothing felt right. Dorcas threw yet another shirt to the floor out of her wardrobe. She wished she had they full wardrobe with their, maybe next semester she'd ask their cousin who had already graduated from Hogwarts and could do magic outside of school to cast a shrinking spell so that she could bring more with them for the spring. How were they possibly supposed to put together a date outfit like this? There was a quiet knock on her door and she knew exactly who that belonged to.
"Come on in Pandy!" She called out, their head still deep within their wardrobe as if willing something to show up.
"Whoa, this is…" Dorcas looked up at her friend who was shaking her head, blonde strands flying out of her singular braid. "Ok. How can I help?"
"Makeup? Please!" Dorcas asked. She spun around and sat in the bottom of the wardrobe, completely defeated. Pandora held up a very full cosmetics bag with a grin.
"What are we feeling?" She sat on the floor of the door and began to dump out items, lip glosses spilling everywhere.
"I think I'm liking this red top but I can't find anything that feels…me today." They held out a shirt to Pandora who remained seated on the floor. Her friend looked thoughtfully at the wardrobe and the clothes scattered around everywhere in the dorm.
"That top is good but your other red top, the one that Mary embroidered the shoulder," Dorcas knew the one she was talking about and rifled through the clothes at the bottom of the wardrobe for it; they held it up to confirm. "Yep, that one and… those muggle bell bottoms you have with the sequins."
"Isn't that a bit too…busy?" Dorcas asked.
"No, it's the perfect amount of busy. It'll look nice and then we’ll pair it with oh!! You know those big earrings you have? Not the ones you enchanted but the plain hoops, yeah and then the snake pendant.” Dorcas pulled each item out of their jewellery box as she spoke. “Perfect. Oh that’ll look so good!” Pandora squealed. “Now come over here and let me work my magic.”
Magic it was too. In a mix of muggle and magical techniques, Pandora applied the colours to Dorcas’ face until she finally felt pleased with the way they looked.
“Panda, you’re the best! I don’t know how you did it!” They admired themselves in the mirror as she spoke.
“A beautiful canvas to work with helps.” She looked at her watch then. “What time were you meeting Marlene again?” Dorcas’ face dropped.
“Six. Don’t tell me…” they looked at their own watch. Ten til six. “Oh shit. I gotta run! Thanks so much Pandy.” They planted a kiss to the side of Pandora’s head before running straight out of the dorm and not stopping until they’d travelled up the first staircase and down the long corridor to the Great Hall entrance.
Sirius was already standing there, alone. He had on his usual outfit, a muggle band t-shirt with his leather jacket over top. He’d done some eyeliner and left his long hair down. Dorcas could see what Remus saw in him, it wasn’t what did it for them but she could still see that he was quite handsome.
“Where are our dates?” She asked as they approached her friend. Sirius shrugged as he looked up then let out a low whistle.
“Looking hot, Dorcas. Love this.” He reached up to the snake pendant. “Normally hate everything Slytherin but you pull it off much better than I ever could’ve.”
“Oh I know. You couldn’t pull off half of what I wear.” They replied with a smirk to which Sirius gasped and looked offended.
“I resent that.”
“Resent it all you want, babe. You keep your bad boy biker look cause you could never look this hot.”
Sirius shook his head and scuffed his boot against the stone of the Great Hall entrance. Then he paused and shrugged off his leather jacket, walking over to drape it over Dorcas' shoulders. He stepped back like an artist admiring their work.
"Mmm, just as I thought, bad boy works to make every outfit hotter." He winked.
"Fuck off, Black." They laughed and pulled the jacket off to hand back to Sirius but he held up a hand.
"It really does suit you, keep it on for tonight, Marlene is going to lose her shit." Dorcas pulled the jacket tighter around her neck, that was a lovely idea.
"Think they'll keep us waiting much longer?" She reflected upon the stairs in front of them.
~~~
They weren't waiting that long in the end before the two were joined by their dates. Marlene, a flurry of long blonde hair and red lips and chaos as always, and Moony, his Moony beautiful Moony. Sirius would never tire of the way the world melted away when his Moony was in the room. Of the few people privy to their relationship status, Sirius was aware the assumption was that Sirius was settling for Remus. They thought that Sirius could do much better, that he should find someone who was hotter, healthier, and of higher status. This was complete and utter bullshit. If anyone took the few seconds to look at Remus, truly look at him, they would know that Sirius was the one far below his league.
"Where's your jacket, love? It's December, in Scotland!" Remus reprimanded by way of greeting.
"You look wonderful too, I'm so excited for this date." Sirius got closer and lowered his voice, "and for after." He added which had the desired effect of stopping Remus in his tracks before he shook his head and continued walking. They were all heading out the front doors of the castle now.
"Don't think you can distract me." Remus growled; his voice sent a shock through Sirius, he didn't think he could make it through this dinner.
"Lent it to Dorcas because they look hot in it and look how much Marlene agrees." Sirius smiled back at their two friends. Marlene couldn't take her eyes off Dorcas, Sirius almost wanted to place a bet that they'd sneak off to the women's during dinner but he knew Remus wouldn't take that bet; he knew better. "Besides," Sirius returned his eyes to his love. "I figured you could keep me warm?"
"You're so lucky you're cute." Remus remarked which only caused Sirius to smile more. The castle lights were now distant behind their backs, the village below them still a fair distance away. Sirius stopped walking, Remus taking a few steps before realising his partner had stopped. "What? What is it?"
"C'mere." Sirius linked their hands together, intertwining their fingers and pulled him closer until their chests bumped together. Sirius tilted his head but it was Remus who leaned down and brought their lips together. It took several minutes before they pulled apart, hands still linked and cheeks slightly flushed. Sirius pulled Remus along by the hand even after they'd caught up with the other couple, and only dropped it when the lights of Hogsmeade station reached them.
The date itself was a mundane affair. Marlene and Sirius had gone back and forth when they'd originally laid out the plans but ultimately The Three Broomsticks was what they decided on. The food there was always good, the drink was always good, and if Marlene got to stare at the young waitress Rosmerta after they'd placed their order, well everyone just pretended not to see. It wasn't too crowded in the inn either which meant the four of them were a little extra bold. Partway through dinner, Remus placed a hand on Sirius' thigh under the table and didn't remove it until Rosmerta walked back over to take their dessert orders and refill their butterbeers. Then Dorcas shared their dessert with Marlene, feeding her off their fork in a far too close to just be friends kind of way. It made Sirius smile, and if anyone noticed, nothing was said.
It was sweet to be together, even if he had started off the day forgetting that this was even on his calendar. Getting away from the castle and enjoying the company of one another was nice. They were able to forget their exams and all other daily worries within the moments of laughter and discussion. When they left The Three Broomsticks all four hand in hand, all that mattered was each other, huddling warm against the cold night air, and ducking into Honeydukes for some more chocolate for Moony and sugar quills for Marlene.
