“i like space” is a very broad rec request but also allows me to fling my favorites at you without question, so thank you 

i’ve got a scattered list of the songs i really love and some of them are really hard to find recordings of but. a sampling:

hope eyrie, probably the most iconic/famous example of an anthem built around the idea that a human presence in space offers us a degree of hope for our future

everyman, which i already linked today but. god listen it’s just so good and has about a 50% chance of making me cry whenever i listen to it. about how spaceflight is the product of many people’s efforts, not just the ones who actually end up going to space

fire in the sky, which is set up sort of as a ballad recounting the successes (and failures) the human race has already had in space and how they inspire us to push further. that first link is to the version written and performed in the early 80s, there has since been an updated recording with additional lyrics about things that happened after the first one was written. but man if i don’t love the low-quality acoustic aesthetic of the older one

(you may notice that all the songs i have mentioned thus far are on the same album. that’s because it’s a very good album and the whole thing is worth a listen, though i am going to depart from it in the rest of my recs)

ship of stone, which is like...... ok. imagine a group of spacefarers thousands of years from now, in a world where humanity has spread into other star systems. now imagine the semi-fairy-tale mythology that might have sprung up about where our species first came from. that’s ship of stone and it’s so so good

seas of space which is very possibly my favorite space song, though it is partially for silly sentimental/personal reasons. that said the lyrics are also absolutely gorgeous in a sort of poetic way. unfortunately there doesn’t exist an old/original recording of the song on the entire internet so the one i linked is a version @scribefindegil and i did ourselves, with me on viola and her on vocals/guitar

that is a very small sampling of the good filk space songs out there but it’s a lot of my favorites and if i get more specific requests i can provide more, too

holy fuck

so like i had valentines plans... for my hall and i bought like $5 worth of candy and made little envelopes to tape to everyone’s door and i got a few friends to help me put it up.

and at our last hall meeting our RA had suggested doing little valentines boxes like in middle school, but like 10 hall plans had fallen through now so i wasn’t expecting anything to happen

but like when i wasn’t looking like 3-5 other people came around and put things in my envelopes 

and i came home after showering to this + someone had taken the poster from somewhere else in the hall with a small smiling otter (part of the health center’s positivity propaganda) and like taped it to my door???

and this is the best thing that has ever happened to me??

i’d be crying rn if my roommate wouldn’t judge me

Nope! It’s a reference to Say Anything by Marianas Trench. They’re my favorite band and I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to both make a terrible pun and reference one of their songs. My url is a reference to one of their songs too. 😊 Good guess tho!

It was Capaldi’s wedding ring, but the loss of the ring also mirrors the First Doctor’s regeneration, if I remember correctly!

I remembered about Capaldi never taking off his wedding ring even for a role, but I have no idea if that was written into the plot in any way. I’ve never seen One’s regeneration, I should track that down.

i didn’t like the ring falling off because i took it to be his wedding ring for river and it falls off when he becomes a woman “because no lesbiam doctor!!1!11!”    

Was the ring canonically Twelve’s wedding ring? I mean, I’m 1000% in favor of the show moving on from River in general, but if Chibnall took the canonical symbol of Twelve’s commitment to River and used that as a symbol of the first female Doctor shedding her relationship with a woman, that would be pretty shitty. 

ETA: just did a search, and consensus seems to be it’s really just a callback to One’s regeneration, so that’s good.

As for how this goes, essentially you'll be just a tad less sleepy than if you took NyQuil, but run the risk of taking too much Quil (acetaminophen). But you already took it, so let's just see how this goes.

A fortunate update: I actually had a really good experience with it, which I think is partly to do with the fact that I was able to control the amounts of Nyquil and Dayquil I had (so I had more of the latter than the former). The sleepiness I experienced (more like sedation, as I don’t get sleepy per se just sedated) was similar to that of other drugs I’ve taken and enjoy. The acetaminophen was a little concerning to me too when reading the back of the bottle but I decided it wasn’t a major concern for me because 1. I have Actual Chronic Pain issues so like. takinng somethig with a painkiller in it, even if I wasn’t actually taking it for pain reasons, does contain something that helps something else, and 2. I apparently have a ridiculously high acetaminophen/NSAID tolerance (like....there was a period of my life where I was deliberately OD’ing on those all the time and at one point I got a blood test to check my liver for unrelated reasons and apparently my liver was working perfectly well)

All in all: Quil was not a bad idea. Would, in fact, do again.
