hehe I actually paid attention to light theory this time! Here’s Noen’s clone partner, Nonex. (see what I did there? Noble gases? Neon’s isotopes having short half lives while Xenon’s has longer half lives. We can also contrast to how it functions as a light source, neon being super saturated and used as an attention grabber, while Xenon can illuminate a room better and its easier on the eyes, along with it being energy efficient) Noen’s “birth” was one of the few that didn’t come with a lethal dosage of iolaria, in fact, her birth was one of the healthiest in the region. On the other hand Nonex had a fatally dangerous amount of iolaria, overtaking his eyes before the medics were able to remove the dangerous mass and re stabilized his body. His chest scar is pretty brutal, and he was a total mess. He stayed weeks and weeks on life support. Most of the doctors wanted to give up on him, and their life expectancy calculations were slim. Though he managed to live through it, though blind. When Nonex and Noen were young, many expected great things of Noen, while Nonex was pitied on. He uses his tail as a cane to figure out if he will bump into something as he walks, and eventually during his childhood, he learned echolocation using the click of his tongue and receiving the bounced sound with his fins. The reception is highly accurate. This only works in quiet environments though. Many thought he was a crazy and deranged child, clicking his tongue at random silent occasions. Oddly enough, light can travel through the iolaria branches coming from his eyes, so he can indicate how well lit his surroundings are. But that’s it, there’s not much he can actually see. His mutation may be a turn off to some Noisulli, and some even pity him. But he turns it around as he works his hardest in the upper city as a capable Noisulli. Even more importantly, he made sure to prove the expectations of many wrong, that he can be more capable than his supposed “perfect” birth partner. And he did so as time passes, while Noen rots her life away in the lower city.
((Alright so my submissions sort of got eaten or something?? Or just delayed in when they finally showed up? This just showed up in my inbox under a bunch of more recent messages, and I check my inbox pretty often. I think this has been sitting here for a while haha, sorry for posting this up so late!! I have been really busy and unable to be online as often! But, I’m glad I found this!))
It’s really cool to see Noen’s counterpart! I really love this storyline and their hardships you’ve given these two. I’ve got a soft spot for the hardworkers despite their given situations, so Nonex is right up my alley. Also I love love love the nobel gases reference in their names!
I’m going to have to be more diligent in checking the inbox to make sure nothing else got misplaced or lost aauugh, sorry again!!
