I enjoy all of the Light OCD discourse, because, like, yeah. There’s obviously symptoms. I LITERALLY have OCD and I see some of myself in him. But as a psych major, with several psych major friends…. Light is legitimately just impossible to diagnose. Because, sure, he has symptoms of OCD. But some of these symptoms overlap with autism. Some of these symptoms overlap with ADHD. Some of these symptoms overlap with BPD, some of these symptoms overlap with OCPD, some of these overlap with narcissism. And once you come to what you think might be a conclusion— how do you know that this is true? When it comes to most of these disorders, they have to be present from childhood. We only get to see small clips of what Light is actually like as a person, without the notebook. How can we be sure that these symptoms were actually present before the notebook— let alone, since he was a child? A lot of things are speculation. And then you have to take comorbidy into account….
I do enjoy the OCD interpretation, I really do! Like I said, I have OCD. Moral OCD too, which is what Light probably has. But I find it honestly hilarious that people well versed in psych cannot pinpoint what is wrong with this man. He has Light Yagami Disorder, an in-universe special. And I love him for it.
Something I haven’t seen ANYONE bring up— my guess is that Haruka, Shidou, and Mahiru aren’t actually dead, based on the irl Milgram experiment.
To elaborate— the irl Milgram experiment had ACTORS “dying,” while the participants were the ones deciding to give the punishment. Assuming MILGRAM is going along with the actual experiment, it’s likely that the ‘11th prisoner Es’ theory has some merit, the three are just faking being dead, and this is quite literally all just an experiment.
Obviously, that’s speculation. Maybe they won’t follow the actual experiment so closely, since it would be predictable. But I wouldn’t lose hope for our blorbi just yet. They could still be alive.

WHERE is that post where someone takes common misconceptions about light’s character and says ‘no, that’s Mikami.’ Because I think that person has 50000000 aura points or whatever. People so so often get their characterizations flipped, which is… confusing to me? The characterizations are set out on a platter for both of them— or, at least, their motives to kill. I think the musical, as much as I adore it, did irreparable damage to Light’s character.
Mikami was always the one who was disgusted by the weak getting eaten by people with more power or influence, justice system included. Like, that’s half the reason he became a prosecutor. He was sick of people getting away with hurting people who couldn’t defend themselves. This is explicitly stated in both the anime AND manga.
Light kills criminals because of his perception of the world as a whole. He cares more about the broader picture, and less about the victims of crimes.
I think people have been misunderstanding Light’s character since the first chapter of the manga was published. I also think that people boil Mikami down to a simp and a simp only, forgetting that he DOES have motivations of his own. But seriously. This is part of the basic summaries of the characters.

Every detail here is beautiful. He was born during pride month. He is perpetually down bad for Kira (dogboy material). The only other thing he wrote down, aside from personal information and simping, was that he has a special interest in Winston Churchill. Full name and everything. Underappreciated fucking detail. This is what confirms his autism to me. I bet he Winston Churchill infodumps to Kiyomi every day. God bless this man.
