A couple days ago I fell down on some ice and hurt my already damaged ankle. I’ve been walking around with my walking stick. And I was suddenly struck with an idea. A war veteran with a gimp leg, due to not being set right after it was broken. He’s an Eldritch Knight. (Of course this is for 5E.) Then his story just start evolving. Now he’s like a 60 year old human Eldritch Knight/War Mage (War Magic school from Xanathar’s Guide to Everything). After being discharged, he came home to find that his wife left him and took the kids. So with the vivid hauntings of war and being alone, he delved into the arcane studies. Eventually finding solace in smithing and artifice. The really great thing, is that he has a staff that can change into a greatsword and back. It is his arcane focus, and his main bonded weapon. So when he’s tired of wacking idiots and doesn’t want to use all his spells, he just turns it into a sword and starts swinging. Also, his granddaughter came and found him. Sometimes she works for him and handles the customers.
