Elaborating on that one paragraph in my previous post.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m a Liv/Noah shipper and I totally get the appeal of Noorhelm, but that doesn’t mean I’m afraid to give my critique when it’s warranted.
Basically, I kind of hate how in pretty much every iteration of Noorhelm that I’ve seen, the main way of showing that the Noora is flawed/moving along the relationship is to have the William call her out on sending mixed signals and yet no one ever calls him out on how he kept violating her boundaries.
I’m not saying that Noora shouldn’t get called out. The problem is that pretty much every time this happens, either William never gets called out or Noora’s callout is used to negate whatever William’s done.
Yes, Noora was guilty of sending mixed signals and not being honest about her feelings, but that doesn’t excuse Willam’s (actively manipulative) behavior at all. And besides that, Noora sending mixed signals wasn’t violating Willam to the same extent that Willam’s actions were violating her. And most of all, Noora had to face consequences and learns from her questionable behavior, but William was rewarded for his outright bad behavior.
It’s a shitty double standard that puts all the blame on the girl and not only lets the guy off the hook completely but makes him out to be the victim.
It just sets a really bad precedent and like I said this other post, “It’s not his fault, she was sending mixed messages.” is language that’s often used to blame victims for their own sexual assault. So yeah, it’s generally a really bad look but especially so in-context because Noora actually was a victim of sexual assault and it's a major part of her storyline. So having her in an idealized romance with a guy who started off the relationship by violating her boundaries and never apologized for it (and on top of that everyone in the fandom bending over backwards to basically throw her under the bus in order to make excuses for him) is so incongruent and sends its own set of actually harmful mixed messages.
But actually though, how hard is it to have someone in-universe be like, “wtf is wrong with you, William? Blackmailing a girl into dating you is a shitty thing to do.” or even to have William be like “I’m really sorry for what I did, that was really wrong of me. I’ll make sure to do better.”? It’s really that simple.
I never thought it was possible to enjoy noorhell season but here i am giggling stupidly, Druck really did it huh
RANT PT 1:Tbh nothing will ever top the OG for me but I love each remakes' take on diff teen culture. BUT. Noorh*lm remakes will top anything the OG has ever done. No idea why Noorhe*lm stans relate to our dislike to our love for Evak. Uh... Idk maybe because out of all the main relationships in show, Evak was the second most relatable and healthy (after Yousana)? And I'm saying that as straight person, not a fucking fangirl. Lemme tell you why...
(I’m gonna y’all know now this is going to be long, but anon is spilling some hot ass tea and every part is worth reading)
RANT PT 2: Evak is liked because the nature of their situation was believable and something any relationship could go through. Mental illness and its stigmas? I’ve dealt w/ that, even had my own prejudices like Isak due to my own experiences of witnessing it. Eva’s insecurity and mistrust? I never cheated but I know exactly shitty breaking a friendship makes you feel. Sana’s identity crisis through religion and her defensive mechanism? Spot on..
“ I’m saying that as straight person, not a fucking fangirl“ I really love that you brought this up, because there is definitely a problem in this fandom with invalidating the opinions of anyone who is not queer. The story of Even and Isak was able to touch many people and so many ways and the way it was portrayed was incredibly realistic, along with the storylines of seasons 1 and 4. Disliking Noorhelm is not a problem of “uwu where are my gays” it is a problem of “so we’re just not going to address how toxic this is”
Not sure if this is an unpopular opinion but I prefer season 1 Noora over any other season. She had a bit more spunkiness and sharpness that I couldn't find in season 2-season 4. I understand that her relationship with William softened her but I find it hard to believe it went away. I think I would have found her relationship with William more appealing if there were more back and forth banters.
I could not agree more! Don't even get me STARTED on Noora's character digression.. 🤦🏿♀️
Same anon as before, I was thinking about an existing fic (ty for replying) but since you mention it, is there a fic you think fandom needs?
Hi again! <3 Yes, I’d really, really love to see a “fixed season two” fic! I really hate how the whole Noora thing was handled. Not that she fucked up and fell for that asshole of a guy who had slept with one of her best friends without using a condom - it’s messed up, but Noora is only human too. Not the whole “maybe roofied, maybe raped” situation either - that was actually a great storyline, how the friends were there for her and took her to the doctor’s, helped her report the event etc.But how she could still go back to William after he pretty much accused her for what had happened, and when it was pretty obvious how uncomfortable, and even scared, she was around him? And somehow, it’s made to be okay, because “he had a crappy childhood”? No, just no.He could still have learned his lesson, that you can’t always get what you want and treat people like disposibles just because you’re gifted with sad puppy eyes and an, hmm, interesting hair cut…. that’s all well and good. But she should not have taken him back. The perfect ending of that season would be Noora, realising that she already had the perfect love story right there, with her four best friends. Friends that would help her come to terms with her other problems, that are barely touched upon here. And eventually, realising how insanely in love with Eva she is.
I know there are lot of fixed or missing storyline fics out there, about Vilde, Jonas, Chris, Elias and especially Even, but I have yet to read a really good one about Noora. I’d try to write one, but I really don’t think I could do it justice :/So, hmm, sorry for the rant, and thanks for playing, anon ;) <3
honesty hour 👀 anon or not I have to answer
i think the bigger issue than noorhelm shippers is the anti-noorhelm shippers since they're the only ones who dominate the tag anyways...apparently their opinions are the only ones that matter
listen you can ship whoever you want but i refuse to support an abusive relationship and it’s annoying to see a million posts about how it’s “true love” when in reality it’s actually textbook signs of abuse. all the noorhells except maybe druck have chemistry, ill give them that, but that doesn’t mean i think they’re good together
the noorhell shippers are gonna start coming out now cause of the grace daniel scene and i would just like to say NO THANK YOU
