❝ Pretty much. ❞
Henry’s learned to count his blessings when it comes to life on the outside, but there are things he doesn’t like about the world. He’s learned that he can simultaneously appreciate his freedom and desire change. This money-based system, it doesn’t work; it only benefits those who possess wealth to begin with, and it keeps those struggling in the dirt. He won’t claim to be a philanthropist. He isn’t motivated by innate altruism, only the urge to survive, and yet even he thinks that people deserve better.
❝ It should be that people are working to live, but currently people are living to work. We’re cogs in a corporate machine that we never agreed to be a part of; most of us are born into a life full of destitution and servitude, and we’re taught that that is all we can expect, otherwise we’re ungrateful. ❞
It mirrors another, darker part of his life almost frighteningly…
Henry doesn’t think that labour is without its merits. To some degree, people should be contributing to the society they live in. They should be offering services to people, and earning wages — but those services should be evenly balanced, and wages should be much higher. The cost of living wrings most regular people dry of the savings they work so hard to amass, and he doesn’t think that’s right. Their system is flawed on not only a fundamental level, but a humanitarian level as well.
❝ I suppose there’s always anarchy. Once the poor realise that they far outnumber the rich, progress can likely be made — if people are brave enough to stand up. That’s my only hope for the future: for people to realise that it can be shaped however they see fit. That they needn’t trudge to the beat of the wealthy. ❞
