Hi everyone, hope you spent some nice holidays...it's been awhile since I made a new post about Noragami. This time I'll talk about something that I discovered some time ago but I never made a proper post because I've been a little busy lately.

Again in chapter 77 (I already talked about this chapter in the previous "Noragami light side" post) I found something really cute (XD) but let's start with an image:

...here during the conversation between Ebisu and Iwami....don't tell that I was the only one that didn't know what was that thing?? XD

I have to admit that this time it wasn't easy but I tryied to think about the context here: Ebisu was told by Iwami that his previous generation, the second one, in ancients time made Iwami learn different spells. Well, long story short the only association my mind made with the whole scene was those of an ancient object so I started to made a simple research about ancient Japanese objects and despite having this random hint I incredibily found something:

Vessels....precisely Jomon vessels! This is awesome!

Here some informations:

Japanese Neolithic pottery dating from approximately 10,500 to roughly 300 BCE, depending on the specific site. This early pottery takes its name from the impressed rope patterns (jōmon means “cord pattern”) that often decorate it. The name has come to denote not only the pottery itself but the Neolithic culture that produced it. Because the potter’s wheel was unknown, manual methods were relied upon, particularly the coiling method—that is, preparing the clay in the shape of a rope and coiling it spirally upward.

( ...isn't this what's going on in this panel? It seems that some ropes are being wrapped and assembled to create something...)

Vessels were simply heaped up and baked in open fires. In its early stages, production consisted mostly of storage jars and deep containers. They were later supplemented by pots and bowls with fantastic handles and, in addition, clay figurines called dogū.

Well what can I say, AdachiToka made again a splendid work adding in my opinion a deeper meaning to scene: Jomon vessels are the oldest in the world and the art and the ability put in the creation of those object can be admired by us in the present. Iwami is no different, Ebisu created his own masterpiece using his knowledge in place of clay ropes to create his own "vessel", something can be appreciated and be in use to the current generations and in the future. Just like the manga already said, Iwami is the connection between the past and the future.

I found beautiful this scene too:

....this scene is brilliant: this time the same vessel in the previous panel is broken indicating Iwami's broken vow. The broken vase was put to frame the panel as if to show us what was inside that same vase. Truth to be told I found the whole scene filled with sadness and bitterness because it's like something we weren't supposed to know suddently came to light....just like a violated sacred object that no one were supposed to sully.

PS: Jomon period was the period where Shinto began to spread so this means that Iwami is one of the oldest shinki in Noragami universe till now.

PPS: I really liked this research (hope you liked it too)and there is so much to say about this period but I don't want to annoy you with a boring long post XD.

What she means: Yato has such a low self-esteem regarding his influence in Yukine's life that he believes that if he died and reincarnated it would be healthier for Yukine, because he could raise a "gentler" version of Yato that would suit him better, ignoring that Yukine loves him for his present self and everything he has done until now. He was Ebisu's inspiration to keep living when he told him to stop giving up his life like nothing and said that he doesn't want to disappear but right now he's willing to die and is convinced that a new version of himself could be better that the current him.
