💜Green Day - Basket Case (nordloef 8bit cover)💜
Last year I torrented a huge collection of music from 8bitcollective, the chiptune site that I only ever went on once back in 2010 (it mighta been 2011, I can’t remember) when I was just getting into chiptune, and although I barely even looked around when I was on there the site went down shortly after and then never went back up. Regardless a lot of good stuff was lost, but thankfully there were people who archived some of the best music on there.
That goofy album art is something I made back in 2013 (maybe 2012? why the fuck can’t I remember what years things happen) and never used.

8-Bit Nights 6 - Nordloef
Joining us on Friday for 8-bit Nights 6 is Swedish chiptune legend Nordloef. Having played across the globe, from the States to Japan, he's kicking off a U.K tour with us in Glasgow. His unique brand of punk-pop chiptunes will make for an electrifying live show.
How did you get started making music? And what attracted you to chiptune stuff? My brother had some old Yamaha keyboards when I was a kid so I started playing on that, and when I became a teen I started to play bass and guitar in various local punk bands. In the same period, some time in 2001, I accidentally stumbled upon a radio show called Syntax Error that was playing noting but music from old video games. The first one I heard they played a lot of Commodore C64 stuff. I didn't care much about the songs, but the sound was incredible! It sounded so raw! After that I was hooked.
What type of hardware and software do you use? I dabble around with various bits of old gear but my main tools are the old original 1989 Game Boy running a piece of music software called Little Sound DJ.
Are there any other chiptune artists that you're a fan of?
Haha, way too many to mention! There are so many great artists out there making awesome music! But I'll take the opportunity to mention a few artists and bands that not only are good friends of mine, but who also make great music. In Sweden there's Octapus, BEN from Japan and Stern Fucking Zeit out of Germany.
And finally, you've played all over the world, where do you think the chiptune scene is strongest?
That is a very tough question. I think all scenes around the world have their own specific strengths and weaknesses, but I've always thought that the New York scene has been going strong for a good couple of years now.
Is there a particular place you loved playing more than others?
I've had the luck to play at many cool places, so it's hard to choose just one. But I always love it when the venue has some kind of punk or DIY-vibe to it. And I don't really like big stages, I'd rather play on the floor next to the audience. (Interview by Joseph Blythe)
