For the person asking about stopping periods. I’m in the same boat - and still far away from Testosterone or hysterectomy possibilities. I really would encourage you to ask your doctor to try various forms of the pill - I’ve had much success with Norethisterone/Noriday - didn’t lead to any feminising problems but have since changed because I was having to take 4 of the pills a day and I already take a lot of other medication. I’m now on Deostrogel not having quite as much success so far but my GP is going on some sort of Trans training event in a couple of months and said they would specifically ask which pill is best for this specific purpose. I will post when I find out!

My home gp is a babe

So now I know that all progesterone only actual birth control pills make me depressed I wanted to go back onto the norethisterone that I used to take. Having googled it, it apparently it isn't actually birth control at all. My plan was to ring up my GP and get her to confirm that it can actually be used as birth control, then find an online UK pharmacy to order it somehow. But I asked her if she could write me a prescription even though I'm not in the country, so my mum could collect it on my behalf and post it to me. And to my surprise she said that was fine, it's all now happened, and I've got 90 days worth of pills that I've been taking since yesterday evening. Which is excellent, Greg and I won't need to use condoms when he comes to see me around Easter 🎉🎉🎉 and fingers crossed it'll stop my bleeding too, seeing as that's what these pills are actually for anyway.

I've been a highkey mess recently

So I stopped smoking weed on the 13th December or so and went through lowkey physical withdrawal, which I didn't think was possible, but evidently it is. I really couldn't sleep and got hot sweats all night, and I had no appetite and felt sick whenever I ate. Then as soon as I got home I started the norethisterone version of the mini pill, which is basically the norethisterone I always take but in a tiny dose and only once a day (because the norethisterone I was taking before technically wasn't real birth control). Then my moods had been crazy up and down, and when they were down I was very low, and really worried about going back to germany. I smoked on the 23rd, and also decided to stop taking these pills so I could rule them out as fucking up my moods. When my mood is normal that obviously seems to be what the issue is, but when my moods are low I'm paranoid I've given myself depression by smoking too much weed. Like right now I doubt that's the case but when I do think that it's scary and awful. So anyway I'm off the pills and not smoking for the foreseeable future until I'm alright again. And as of today I'm having a bad and crampy bleed which is a horrible result of me taking those pills and then stopping. So this has been an update just for my own future reference basically.

A surprisingly easy time at the doctors

I wanted to go back on the pills before I finally get to see greg again, but I was imagining getting more from the doctor would be a nightmare. Last time I had to convince the receptionists that it was an emergency that I needed more gel because they don't like my ehic card. I even looked up buying them online instead, and the only reason I didn't just do that was because they might take too long to arrive. So I went to the doctors yesterday. And it was absolutely fine! They just asked me if I wanted to see the doctor then I just waited until my name was called. Didn't even need to show my ehic card or try and argue my way in. Initially I got a private prescription and it cost me €22.90 (!!!) But then after speaking to the pharmacist I went back and got a Kassen prescription and it was only €5. So everything went so much better than expected!

Does anyone have any experience being prescribed Norethisterone? I haven't heard of it commonly so I'm worried a GP may not be willing to prescribe it but from what I know it's more effective at stopping periods than the mini pill - and also what side effects people experienced? Thank you

There are a couple of mentions of Norethisterone on our blog which might be helpful, and reassuring to know that there are other people who have taken it (e.g. tomhasatransblog).

Saw the doctor and I’ve got my prescription

Saw the doctor and gave him my letters from notts and explained that I needed norethisterone too. We spoke in english thank god and he was willing to prescribe everything but the difficulty was that I didn’t know the german names of the drugs I take; they don’t have sustanon or norethisterone in germany.

We worked out that sustanon is “testoviron” and I’m now on the german equivalent of cerazette called “desogestrel”. To find that one out I had to go downstairs to the pharmacy and ask the pharmacist ti find its name.

I had to pay a €5 contribution for the T which was fine because the amount you pay is between €5-10, but the desogestrel was €13.50. I asked why and it turns out it’s not covered by my EHIC card because I’m a man. Which is pretty transphobic but I’m sure it’s just a hole in the system no one thought to fill in

My employer has put me on their insurance and it’s possible that will cover it, so now I’m just waiting for the details about that to come in the post so I can find out. So all in all it’s gone okay, apart from me having to spend  €18.50, but I’m just glad I’ve got what I need

Hi! After my 1st assessment my GIC doc (charing cross) prescribed me norethisterone to stop my horrible periods (I started this week). The pharmacy webpage suggests to only take them for a max of 20 days, have my period and continue if needed. My GIC doc prescribed for 2 months & my GP said nothing apart from have 3 a day & come back when I run out. I thought I was going to take them until Sept (my 2nd appointment) but that's 4/5 months & I dunno if it's dangerous to my body... Help please?

You should take them as instructed - if you haven’t been told to have breaks in taking them then you should take them continuously. A quick search online turns up quite a few people who have taken norethisterone continuously, and from memory I think @tomhasatransblog has talked quite a lot about norethisterone, so his blog might be helpful for you. However, if you’d like expert advice or reassurance it would be best to ask your GP or Charing Cross directly.
