The crispy goodness of tempura-battered shrimp is mixed with the great tastes of sushi rice wrapped in nori to make tempura sushi. It's a delicious mix of Japanese cooking styles, perfect for sushi fans who want something crunchy.
Ingredients: 12 large shrimp, deveined and peeled. 1 cup all-purpose flour. 1 cup ice-cold water. 1 egg. Salt to taste. Sushi rice. Nori sheets. Vegetable oil for frying. Soy sauce for dipping. Wasabi optional. Pickled ginger optional.
Instructions: Use whatever method you like to make sushi rice. Mix flour, ice-cold water, egg, and a pinch of salt in a bowl with a whisk until the mixture is smooth. In a deep fryer or large pot, heat the vegetable oil to 350F 175C. Make sure that each shrimp is evenly covered in the tempura batter before you fry it. Be careful when putting the shrimp in the hot oil. Fry for about two to three minutes on each side, until golden brown and crispy. Take the shrimp out of the oil and lay them on paper towels to drain the extra oil. Make thin strips out of the nori sheets. Cover the nori strips with sushi rice, leaving a little space at the top. Put a tempura shrimp on top of the rice and roll it up tight. Cut the sushi roll into small pieces that you can easily eat. Give the tempura sushi soy sauce to dip it in. You can serve it with wasabi and pickled ginger if you want to. Have fun with your tempura sushi!
