Ships, shipping, sex, attraction
I’ve only been back to Tumblr for a short while now (maybe a month), and ships can be fun and all, but WHY CAN'T FRIENDS BE JUST FRIENDS WITHOUT BEING ROMANTIC ABOUT IT??? Like, seriously, I have had male friends and female friends my whole life, and that's what always annoyed me about what people would say to me. "Men only hang out with you to get in your pants,” or “You spend so much time together. You two must be lesbians.”
It truly bothers me beyond belief that people can’t just be platonic *friends* without people having to put their relationship pressure on it. I love my friends deeply. I think we should normalize intimacy. Hug people. Hold hands. Be close.
Modern American society sees intimacy as naughty or sexy or strange because of so many years of fear and repressions from the Edwardian movement, post WW2 fear of homosexuality, and the push for the ultra masculine/ultra feminine ideals of the 1950s and 1980s.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with a bit of fantasy regarding our fictional faves. Just make it healthy. Make it grounded in a bit of reality. Be kind to each other. Show intimacy without fear of side-eye. Love each other.
