I understand that the Bethylers are excited about a particular phrasing of the development of Beth and Daryl's bond, just like we Rickylers were excited about the news of Daryl's potential being gay.
But, unlike confirmation from the writers themselves that queer Daryl has been discussed, this new information about Bethyl holds no weight whatsoever.
Why? Because the people who write character summaries are not--and never will be--privy to the plans of the writers and the directors of the The Walking Dead.
You might remember a relatively shippy summary of the episode "Alone". That summary was deleted almost immediately, since it simply suggested something that the writers just didn't support--and still don't. Chances are that these summaries are probably written by interns, down way low in the company's food chain, so to speak, and they just have no idea where the show is officially going.
So, yes, that's right; nothing separating this from fans' idle speculation exists other than its being posted on an "official" website.
No, Bethyl isn't canon. Take into consideration that shipping is one of the biggest attractions of the show (any many others among it). If we weren't spending our time crying over our OTP and sitting on the edge of our seats to see if it goes canon, what would we even be watching the show for? (Sarcasm intended--I know a lot of us aren't like that, but I, for one, am among the people whose OTP has become the show.) Anyway, do you realize how secret any information about shipping is? For a flippant comment to make fans think a certain ship is going canon, well...that's just ludicrous. "Deeper feelings" is the furthest thing from meaning "fuck yeah, I wanna stick my dick in that".
I understand that it's a knee jerk reaction from all parties. Those whose ship that this hardly supports are jumping the gun and calling their ship canon. Those who have another ship are reclining back in their chairs, groaning, thinking I can't believe they're actually doing that. Even people who have an unrelated ship or don't ship anything at all may be unsettled by this recent "development".
None of the above reactions are warranted from the information given. Actually, no reaction is warranted at all. Nothing's changed from yesterday to today. This is about as official as a Bethyl fan editing the wiki with their bias, as it is completely unconnected to the actual creation of the show. The question of shipping is still as much anyone's game as it's ever been.
