I need some advice.
EVERY time I visit Atlanta, Georgia, I leave with this nagging feeling that I belong there; like I'm supposed to live there.
My stepsister moved to Georgia when she was 19 with her boyfriend. Now, they're 25 & married and living an awesome life. She's a stay-at-home wife who goes to school full-time & he has his own (successful) home renovation company that stemmed from his dad's construction company. They have an amazing split-level house with three bedrooms, two full bathrooms, a formal dining room, a two-story living room and an attached double garage. Not to mention, the yard is HUGE and the neighborhood is lovely and the house is worth a measly $70,000. I don't know what house prices are like where all of you live, but a house that size could go for $150k-$200k EASILY here in North Carolina.
And it's so much nicer there where they live. My stepsister and her husband live on the outskirts of Atlanta by about 20 minutes in a city named Snellville. It's a lovely town & it's got its bad parts like every other city, but the nice parts are SO nice.
Snellville, GA is 5 hrs. 21 min. from where I live in North Carolina. But, something inside me makes me want to move there so badly. I was looking at the real estate in Snellville online last night and I saw the most beautiful house, something that could more than definitely be my forever house. It was a Colonial-style two story house & it was 2,500 square feet with 4 bedrooms and 2 1/2 bathrooms and it would only cost us $35 more per month than what we pay now and our house now is a measly 800-sq. ft. 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom house.
The jobs are better there, the houses are cheaper, the cigarettes are cheaper, and it's absolutely beautiful.
My only concern would be how far we would be from North Carolina. I have an extremely close relationship with my mom and my sister worships me - she's only 9, so she looks up to me a lot. However, I don't see my mom much as it is. We talk on the phone every day, but I see her MAYBE once a week as it is. & with it being a 5 hour drive from North Carolina, we could come here every weekend or every other weekend and see our parents about the same amount as we do now.
My husband is convinced that he could join the police force here & transfer to the force in Georgia if we decide to move. Job-wise, I'm not doing anything right now. But, I am thinking about going back to school full-time for dental hygiene and I would hope my credit hours would transfer to a technical school in Georgia.
I wouldn't wanna be completely alone there, though. I talked to our friends Charles, Alex, & Ian about moving with us and all of them think it's a great idea & we would rent rooms out to them until they could save up enough money to get places of their own. The added bonus is that three of our best, closest, and most reliable friends would be there with us.
So, what do you guys think? Should I move to Georgia when/if I am granted the opportunity?
