a teeth-clenching hiss was all that tom managed to let out as he sat there, letting her hands tend to his wounds. the pain itself wasn't too bad, but the antiseptic stung . . — a lot.

the young man squeezed his eyes shut and let his tense shoulders slump, succumbing to the woman's first aid. he wasn’t entirely sure how or why this happened, but luckily, it didn’t look life-threatening.

She had caught him breaking into an antique shop in the dead of night. Unaware of her occupation, he had tried to flirt his way out of the interaction and claimed he was the owner, but found himself at the end of her firearm. Dean's eyes glittered in the dim lighting, fixed on Bo with an air of wariness, hands held up to show he wasn't currently armed. He took a slow step forward, hesitant yet steady, his gaze unwavering from her.

"Listen, lady," he responded gruffly, his tone somewhat more serious, "I'd normally love to find out — maybe grab a drink together — but I'm runnin' out of time here." Dean shook his head imperceptibly, pausing to study the woman before him for a long moment. "You can have me arrested for breaking into your place later, all right? But for right now, I need you to trust me — can you do that?"

Holding a hand out to Nyteri almost in caution, Jake swallowed the lump in his throat while his eyes took in her profile, a resigned expression on his face as he tried to get her to listen. “I know you don’t have any reason to trust me, but you need to know something.”

Words that were spoken with the confidence of a man who was not him, he didn't dare to move closer to his was she actually still his mate because he knew that in her despair, she was volatile and unpredictable.

Things he loved about her, though.

Once she finally met his already-wet gaze, Sully forced himself to stand firm because this was his responsibility. It was all that he could do because there was no way Neteyam was in any state to prove his father's point, not after their idiot son had gone AWOL with his younger brother Lo'ak.

What were the knuckleheads thinking!? They were still just children, god damn it! What made the thought of exploring an old RDA's outpost a good one? By the grace of Eywa's will, the two boys had gotten away but not unscathed. Neteyam was being looked after by the scientist's medical squad, and Lo'ak was bloodied and bruised to the point of amazement that his second-oldest was even able to stand.

However, it'd been too long... too long since Neteyam's eyes had fluttered since he'd begun to convulse intermittently, leading everyone to think the boy had found something that Jake's old science sorties were working on before they had to abandon ship; he could only hope it wasn't lethal.

Without moving an inch still, he knew his wife had to be blaming him. He was their father.

"I know, baby, I know. I- I messed up. It's a father's job to protect his family... I failed. Just listen to me? He's going to be okay. I just know that he's going to be okay. He has to be. Right? He has to be okay, so he's going to be okay."

Dean threw his hands up. "For you to listen to me damnit! The rules I put into place for you is for your own sake. You are by no means a hunter and look at what you've gotten yourself into." He was aware he was yelling. That his scolding came from a deep place of care that he fought day and night to erase. Sam was still fast asleep back at the motel. Dean had tracked her down on intuition only to find she had walked right in a vampires trap.

He was racked with both relief and anger. Astrid had ignored the one rule, to never go out alone. Dean took in a deep breath. "Come on, we're going back to the motel."
