The greater horseshoe bat is named after a uniquely shaped nose-leaf on its face. During echolocation, the nose-leaf acts as an acoustic lens that focuses the sound emitted by the bat into a narrow beam. This increases the directionality of the bat's call and improves its hunting accuracy.
